What is an OEM product manager?

An OEM Product Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing products that are manufactured by one company (the Original Equipment Manufacturer, or OEM) and then marketed or sold by another company under its own brand name. They coordinate between the OEM and their own organization to ensure products meet quality, performance, and branding standards. Their role includes managing product development, collaborating with engineering and sales teams, and maintaining strong relationships with OEM partners. OEM Product Managers also analyze market trends, define product requirements, and help drive the success of OEM-branded products.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an OEM product manager?

To thrive as an OEM Product Manager, you need a strong background in product lifecycle management, market analysis, and business strategy, often supported by a degree in engineering, business, or a related field. Familiarity with ERP systems, product development tools, and certifications like PMP or Agile are valuable. Excellent communication, negotiation, and cross-functional teamwork skills help you manage relationships with OEM partners and internal stakeholders. These abilities are crucial to drive successful product launches, meet client requirements, and achieve business growth in competitive markets.

How does an OEM product manager typically collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure successful product delivery?

OEM Product Managers work closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to translate customer requirements into detailed product specifications and production plans. They frequently participate in cross-functional meetings, coordinate timelines, and ensure that technical constraints and quality standards are met. Effective collaboration is essential for addressing design challenges, managing changes, and maintaining alignment throughout the product development cycle. This partnership ensures the final product meets both market needs and OEM partner expectations.

Our client, a division of a well-established global industrial manufacturer, is looking for a Product Support Specialist to join their team in Lincoln Park, NJ.
