Intern Summary

The occupational therapy intern will conduct occupational therapy assessments, identify treatment goals/interventions, administer treatment, and document patient response to treatment and progress related to occupational therapy interventions. The occupational therapy intern will participate in the planning, coordinating, and implementation of occupational therapy related therapeutic groups and/or individual treatment as defined in each patient's Individual Plan of Service (IPOS).

Responsibilities:

Occupational therapy intern duties include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting occupational therapy assessments in accordance with established clinical standards.
  • Developing individualized occupational therapy interventions based upon assessed patient need.
  • Planning and conducting occupational therapy groups for patients as part of the Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) program as indicated by patient need.
  • Providing training to staff and patients on safe and appropriate usage of occupational therapy related equipment.
  • Participating as a member of the interdisciplinary team for the assigned unit(s) in relevant aspects of the Person-Centered Planning process.
  • Documenting progress on the various treatment modalities as indicated by departmental guidelines and/or hospital policy.
  • Completing documentation for occupational therapy sessions and weekly/monthly progress notes.
  • Completing documentation for each group and individual therapy session and weekly/monthly progress notes.

Required Education and Experience

At the time of internship, must be currently enrolled pursuing your bachelors degree or higher in one of the below areas of study:

Minimum of a bachelor's degree in occupational therapy or a related field; and enrolled in an occupational therapy master's degree program.

Alternate Education and Experience

Preferred Skills / Qualifications:

  • Must be actively enrolled in a college and university.
  • Must have achieved at least a bachelor's degree and meet the qualifications of the learning institution, and preferentially, are enrolled in a Master's program.
  • The academic major must be consistent with the area of which the student is seeking an internship (Occupational Therapy)
  • Must provide a copy of respective academic institution's Internship Agreement outlining internship objectives and academic instructor's name and telephone learning institution, and preferentially, are enrolled in a graduate program.
  • Must have satisfactory criminal history and protective services background check.
  • Must possess a valid & unrestricted driver's license.
