UPMC Chautauqua is hiring a Nutrition Tech to join the team!

This position is full-time, hours range between 5am to 7:30pm. Occasional weekend coverage required.

Previous food service experience highly preferred.

Purpose: The Nutrition Tech is responsible for operating the call center where patients call down to place their meal orders, and/or taking meal orders at the bedside. Utilizing a computerized menu system, the Nutrition Tech guides the patient through the menu-ordering process, within the constraints of their therapeutic diet order and safety considerations.
Responsibilities:

  • Strictly ensures safety precautions and inputs Special Service instructions into patient records, for situations such as Safety Trays, Aspiration Precautions, Nissen considerations, Missed Meals, etc.
  • Confidentially utilizes electronic health record to verify diet orders, enteral feedings, and food allergies.
  • Assists with inpatient meal trayline or meal delivery as needed. Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. Possesses the ability to obtain and interpret information considering age specific needs. Assures accurate
  • implementation of the diet prescription. Demonstrates exceptional customer service behaviors through all interactions.
  • Completes all clerical activities and processes orders appropriately. Completes assigned patient activities.
  • Participates in meal tray and nourishment delivery. Supports a positive working relationship with others and actively supports and participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Demonstrates UPMC's commitment to Service Excellence by understanding the needs of patients, their families, physicians, and co-workers and doing what is required the first time, every time by being responsible, sensitive, accurate, timely, coordinated, and thorough.
  • Operates Computrition Hospitality Suite computerized menu program.
  • Guides inpatients with care and compassion through the process of ordering their meals/snacks, within the constraints of their physician prescribed therapeutic diet order. Interacts and coordinates care relevant to diet orders or other with Patients, Nursing, Registered Dietitians, Trayline Workers, Tray Passers, Cooks.
  • Handles all diet office phone calls and communicates issues to the appropriate areas. Accurately inputs nutritional supplements, in accordance with physician, Registered Nurse and Registered Dietitian Nutritionist medical record orders.
  • Accurately executes Enteral Tube Feeding orders. Maintains out of stock items and communicates to patients as needed.
  • Maintains and prints 10am, 2pm and HS snacks/nourishments. Communicates all TPN consults or other relevant nutrition issues to the Registered Dietitians as needed.
  • Troubleshoots diet order trayline conflicts. Inputs and processes special diet considerations such as Gastric Bypass diets, Calorie Counts, Safety.
  • Associate Degree in diet therapy or a related field preferred; or High school graduate or equivalent with two years of technical experience in a hospital setting or a related area preferred.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • NY Mandated Reporter Training- Due within 90 days of hire or transfer
  • NYS Staff Exclusion List (NYSEL)
