Job description

Patton State Hospital, Human Resources Department is accepting applications for at least one (1) Permanent, Full-time Registered Nurse (Safety) as the Nursing Performance Improvement Coordinator in Central Nursing Services (CNS). The position is under the administrative and professional direction of the Risk Management Coordinator - Supervising Registered Nurse. The expected work assignment is Monday-Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Hours may vary and change based on operational need.
The Performance and Improvement (NPI) Coordinator is responsible for the ongoing monitoring, auditing, assessing, and making recommendations for the maintenance and improvement of quality nursing services. The NPI coordinator will work closely with the Registered Nurse mentors, Health Services Specialists and Supervising Registered Nurses to develop audits to monitor quality of patient care, nursing performance, and will assist with education and training of nursing care based on the data and monitoring findings. The NPI coordinator shall be familiar with DSH-Patton nursing policies and procedures, current standards of practice, Title 22, and Joint Commission standards. The NPI coordinator will also provide coverage for the Health Services Specialist Utilization Review and develop nursing death summaries as well as other duties as specified by the Nurse Administrator.
Knowledge and abilities should include but are not limited to: Policy Directive (PD) 9000, Administrative Directive (AD) # 2.01 Quality Improvement Program, review audits, present data information clearly and concisely, make recommendations based on data results, reevaluate plans, awareness of hospital procedures and directives, and the significance of regulatory agencies such as The Joint Commission and CDPH-Licensing.
Desired personal characteristics include a positive, enthusiastic approach to nursing services, an ability to coordinate performance improvement projects with other departments, attentiveness to details and organization, and good verbal/written communication skills. Computer skills, including experience working with Microsoft Word and Excel, are highly favorable. Strong attendance is essential for this position.
Full-time employees in nursing classifications assigned to off-unit service areas are included on the mandatory overtime rotation list that will require an employee to work in a variety of settings throughout the Hospital. Additionally, staff will be required to work at least three (3) major holidays and/or high-need days during the calendar year in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.

Patton is a forensic psychiatric hospital and was established in 1890 and opened in 1893. DSH-Patton provides treatment to forensically and civilly committed patients within a secure treatment area. The hospital does not accept voluntary admissions.
