Job description

We are looking for hard-working, reliable, and safety-minded individuals to join our team as a Laborer. In this role, you will be responsible for unloading, inspecting, sorting, and processing various types of non-ferrous scrap metal. You will operate a forklift to move materials and perform general physical labor, yard cleanup, and routine maintenance. Your efforts will ensure that the highest quality scrap material is processed and shipped to our customers in a safe, efficient manner. Additionally, you will be trained to provide backup support for our non-ferrous scale operations. Being bilingual is a plus for this position

This position will work outside in varying weather conditions, and SA Recycling strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe environment for all employees, customers, and visitors.
  • Direct and assist customers to the proper location for the unloading of material.
  • Inspect incoming material to identify non-conforming or unacceptable types of scrap metal and debris.
  • Identify and grade acceptable nonferrous material and identify material for upgrade potential.
  • Train on non ferrous scale and be backup at any given time
  • Operate equipment such as a forklift  to load, unload, and move material around the yard.
  • Perform daily inspections on equipment reporting any defects or needed repairs to supervisor.
  • General clean up and yard maintenance including but not limited to digging, sweeping, and maintenance of weeds and brush. General warehouse housekeeping
  • Provide backup or assistance throughout the yard as needed on scales or assigned areas.
  • Comply with all applicable federal, state, local, & SA Recycling safety, health, & environmental rules, regulations, policies, & procedures.

Qualifications of a Laborer

  • High School diploma, GED Certification, or equivalent work experience.
  • 1-year previous general labor in the scrap metal or construction industries preferred.
  • Forklift experience required.
  • Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) a plus.
  • Ability to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
  • Ability to learn new tasks as assigned required.
  • Must have some computer knowlege 
  • Must pass Credit/ background check
  • Must pass preemployemnt physical and drugscreen
