Job description

Noda, Shigeyuki Tsunoda's Michelin Star omakase restaurant has an incredible opportunity for an experienced beverage professional to join our team as a Sommelier/Captain. Candidates will have a strong service orientation and be knowledgeable in wine, primarily Champagne, Burgundy, Sake and Japanese Whisky. This individual will be working service, maintaining an extensive beverage program, as well as contributing to our education program.

A minimum of three years of experience as a Sommelier in a fine dining environment is a must. Our new Sommelier will be influential in all aspects of the beverage department but should also be eager to grow existing foundations while working with a team of equally inspired and enthusiastic professionals.


CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

As a Sommelier, specific certifications are not required, but a strong fundamental knowledge of the wine regions of the world – both Old and New World – along with producer familiarity and vintage knowledge is mandatory. The most essential component to be a successful Sommelier will be the earnest desire to propel the wine program forward through clear communication and organization, a curiosity to learn more, and a willingness to share our expertise with guests and staff in a helpful, thoughtful way.


  • Must have 3 years + experience in a fine dining NYC restaurant as a Sommelier
  • Knowledge of wine at a CMS Level 2 standard
  • Must be able to lift & a carry at least 50 pounds
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Must be comfortable with repetitive motions (such as walking, bending & standing)
  • Must be knowledgeable of Industry critics & awards
  • Must have full schedule availability
  • Must be able to take constructive criticisms and work well in a team dynamic

This position entails extensive customer interaction so please feel comfortable speaking with guests throughout the meal beyond the context of service. We offer multiple pairing options to accompany our dinner service so ability to multitask and speak eloquently across a broad range of subjects and product types is essential. Excellent standards of service, detail work, organization, and timeliness are requirements for consideration.
Compensation: Compensation will be commensurate with experience but will be at the top of the market level for an ideal candidate. Average weekly tips are $2,000 with potential for significantly more on an incremental basis.
