Job Summary: UI/UX Software Engineer is an engineering role focused on supporting the design, development, and improvement of new and existing products or product lines. This position plays a key role in defining how users interact with the digital systems aboard our next-generation boats. Responsibilities include design and implement intuitive, visually compelling, and high-performance user interfaces for embedded displays that control and enhance the boating experience. This role requires collaborating closely with mechanical and electrical engineers as well as industrial designers to bring new digital experiences from concept to production.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop user interfaces for embedded displays that control boat functions such as surf systems, audio, ballast, lighting, and navigation.
  • Prototype, test, and refine UI/UX concepts by using environments like Crank Storyboard, Qt, or proprietary embedded display tools.
  • Implement production-ready code for embedded systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in industrial design, mechanical, and electrical to ensure seamless hardware and software integration.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies in HMI, mobile, and IoT systems relevant to the marine and automotive industries.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Broad knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and software systems integration.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and a hands-on approach to troubleshooting and testing.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to work closely with all members of the organization.

Requirements

Knowledge, Education, and/or Experience Required: 

  • Bachelor's degree in software/electrical engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field.
  • 2 to 3 years' experience in UX design or development.
  • Proficiency in UI frameworks such as embedded Linux, Crank Storyboard, or Qt.
  • Strong understanding of UX principles, interaction design, and human-machine interface design.
  • Experience with graphics and animation for embedded or real-time environments.
  • Expert-level understanding of CAN bus systems, including the J1939 and N2K protocols
  • Desire to work in a "hands-on" environment.

Knowledge, Education, and/or Experience Preferred:

  • Experience in automotive, marine, or powersports UI development.
  • Experience with 12V electrical systems.
  • Relevant certifications.
  • Passion for boating, watersports, or outdoor recreation.
  • Ability to trailer a boat.

Physical Demands 

  • Must be able to work in a non-climate-controlled environment where ambient air temperature can exceed outside air temperature occasionally.
  • Must be able to bend at the waist and knees and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds when necessary.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be a licensed driver with a good driving record (subject to MVR).
