General Description:
Primary Purpose: Serve as the instructional leader for a school while managing the operations of a high school.
Summary: The principal will provide instructional leadership in planning and leading a school. This includes implementing the district's strategies which focus on improved student achievement; building a positive school climate that supports the whole student; leveraging research and data to drive initiatives and instruction; building a high-performing staff and leadership team to achieve the school's vision and goals.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, the candidate must possess the following required education, certification, skills, experience and/or qualifications. Employees are responsible for obtaining/retaining the most current statutory and administrative rule requirements for their position.
- Education/Training:
- Master's degree in educational administration, or related field from an accredited college or institution. Doctorate preferred.
- Licensure:
- Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or comparable out of state certification.?
- Endorsement:
- General Administrative endorsement, Principal Endorsement or comparable out of state certification.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of exemplary experience as a school administrator
- Minimum of 3 years successful teaching experience.
- Knowledge/Abilities/Skills:
- Accomplished, experienced educator and leader.
- Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position.

- Set and enforce rigorous standards for student achievement that are in line with the goals of the Proviso Township High Schools District 209
- Ensure the academic program meets or exceeds yearly student outcome goals as defined by the Proviso Township High Schools District 209
- Develop organizational goals and objectives consistent with the vision, mission and values of the Proviso Township High Schools District 209
- Lead teachers and Instructional team leaders in developing a healthy school culture aligned with the vision, mission and values of the school and the District.
- Work with teachers to constantly assess and improve student achievement results.
- Ensure learning environment and classroom instruction maximizes student learning.
- Monitor the progress of all students.
- Ensure use of effective, research-based teaching methodologies and practices.
- Implement data-driven instructional practices and lead discussions about student performance.
- Build leadership capacity in others
- Supervise and mentor all teachers
- Direct and complete effective teacher and staff evaluations
- Make fiscally responsible decisions and work on a building level budget
- Oversee routine facilities maintenance.
- Oversee management of school records and resources as necessary.
- Ensure compliance of local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

Performance Evaluation/Accountability:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Proviso Township High Schools District 209 Board's policy on evaluation of personnel. All evaluations shall comply with State and Federal law.
Supervises:
This job has responsibilities for all certificated staff, educational support staff employees, student teachers, interns, and volunteers working in the school as well as all students while in the classroom, on school grounds, during district transportation to and from school and during all before and after-school activities.

Position Goals:
Annually the Principal, in consultation with the Superintendent, shall develop the Principal's goals for the forthcoming year, which shall be set forth in the Principal's annual evaluation document. In the event that the Principal, Superintendent and the Board fail to agree on the goals to be included in said document, the Superintendent shall establish the goals.
