Job Grade: 102
Annual Salary: $54,537 - $70,697 (Actual salary will be determined based upon qualifications)
Location: Malcolm Purvis Library, 510 Melton Street, Magnolia, TX 77354
Civil Service: Yes
Shift Hours: Includes evenings and Saturdays, as assigned
Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements
• Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program, or within last semester
• Previous library work experience desired
• Good communication skills, oral and written
• Strong interpersonal skills; able to work well with library customers and co-workers
• Experience with computer software & technology, including use of electronic catalog
• Working knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office
• Internet search skills
• Presentation experience and skills
• Supervisory experience beneficial
• Experience with PC maintenance desirable
• Valid Texas driver's license and good driving record
Primary Job Duties
• Provides readers advisory and reference service including on-line computer searching for children, young adults and adults, as needed
• Assist in maintaining and developing the library collections, including print, audiovisual, and electronic resources
• Selects materials for the circulating and reference collections
• Plans and coordinates children's services and programs, including summer reading programs
• Supervises full time and part time Library Assistant II's who participates in delivering youth services
• Provides readers' advisory and reference service, including online computer searching
• Develops highly visible public relations program for youth services in the community, including schools and other organizations
• Assist in budget development to meet unit and system goals
• Attends and participates in professional activities, conferences, and committees
• Maintains an awareness of professional trends, methods and ethics, particularly with regard to children's literature and services
• Performs any and all other duties assigned
After receiving a conditional offer of employment, applicant must pass a drug screen (1/2 cost = $20.00, responsibility of applicant) and may need a physical agility test (1/2 cost = $22.50, responsibility of applicant) before becoming an employee of Montgomery County.
