Summary:

The Long-Term Librarian Substitute is responsible for managing the borrowing and returning of library materials, supervising the use of library space, and providing basic instruction on library resources as needed.


Primary Responsibilities:ย 

  • ย Assume responsibility for the organization and maintenance of all materials and equipment.
  • Oversee the checking in and checking out of all materials.
  • Coordinate and cooperate closely with the Lower school librarian.
  • Supervise the withdrawal of obsolete or damaged materials.
  • Participate in faculty, curriculum, and technology meetings
  • Assess student learning information needs, locate and use resources that will meet those needs, and understand and communicate the information the resources provide.
  • Provide resource support to students and faculty in Middle and Upper School.
  • Promote literacy and the enjoyment of reading.
  • Create a library media center environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and the interests of the students.
  • Operate computer systems for research, circulation of media and collection management.
  • Adhere to established laws, policies, rules, and regulations including copyright laws.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

ย Minimum Education/Prior Experience/Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor's degree
  • High level of competence using technology
  • Experience in a PreK - 12 environment, preferably in independent schools, is a plus
  • Strong references to convey teaching abilities
  • Current CPR certification

Core Competencies:

  • Excellent communication skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain accurate records
  • Possess strong people skills in order to be empathetic to students' and parents' needs

Upon Hiring

  • Successful completion of fingerprint-based background investigation and sexual offender registry information checks.
  • Successful completion of CMG Safe Environment Training.
  • Current CPR certification.ย

  • Appropriately carry out specific duties as determined by the Head of School and/or supervisor.ย 
  • Maintain professional credentials and complete required training. Participate in and provide documentation for at least one professional development opportunity per year in addition to those required and provided by the school. ย 
  • Respect the confidentiality of the school, its employees, students, and families.ย 
  • Comply with the policies and procedures as articulated in the faculty and staff handbook.ย 
  • Authentically engage in the school's self-reflection process that requires written goals and measured progress towards them.
