Benefits Job Description
The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in recruiting and retaining student athletes in an effort to provide opportunities for team and individual academic and athletic; assisting with organizing and conducting practices & competitions; adhering to NJCAA coaching principles; supporting and participating in development, fundraising and corporate sponsorship efforts in partnership with the Harford Community College Foundation; and performing other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director. Assistance and awareness of the academic success of student athletes is a priority for all coaches.
Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.
Required Education
A high school diploma or GED and college credits with a minimum of 30 hours or more are required. A Bachelor's degree is preferred.
Required Experience
A minimum of three (3) years of experience with a combination of active game situation coaching at the high school, club/select, or collegiate level is required; professional playing/coaching experience will be considered. Prior experience and participation in development, fundraising and corporate sponsorship efforts is also required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Candidates must possess expertise in volleyball and exhibit excellence in coaching and instruction in practice and contests while serving as a positive example of a leader and role model. Other requirements include:
  • A valid driver's license and a good driving record with fewer than three points.
  • First-aid, CPR, and AED certifications required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in sports strategies.
  • Excellent and effective communication skills.
  • Prior experience with recruiting efforts and student-athlete retention.
  • Prior experience and participation in development, fundraising, and corporate sponsorship efforts.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates familiar with NJCAA and Maryland JUCO guidelines and policies.
Hours per Week 20 General Weekly Work Schedule
Work schedule based on sports season. Final schedule to be determined by the supervisor.
