Job description

Workplace Type: Hybrid
Posting End Date: 08/07/2026
Newmont produces metals the world needs - safely, responsibly and with care for people, communities and the environment. With a 100+ year history, we continue to shape the future of mining through innovation and strong operational performance. By joining our inclusive, world-class team, you can help shape the future of mining and make a meaningful difference.
Newmont's Corporate Headquarters are located in Denver, Colorado with roles in Engineering, IT, Finance, Accounting, Human Resources and much more.
Your Impact
Newmont is the world's leading gold company. We invest substantially in the communities that host our operations - through local employment and procurement, community investment, development foundations, and benefit agreements. We are looking for someone to help us consistently demonstrate what that investment achieves.
This is a newly created global role, established to build Newmont's enterprise approach to socio-economic development: how we design programs, how we measure whether they work, and how we use that evidence to make better decisions about where value flows and to whom.
The work spans the full asset lifecycle across our portfolio, from greenfield projects to operations to mines approaching closure, addressing the question of what legacy Newmont will leave behind.
What You'll Own
  • Newmont's enterprise SED strategy, standards, and governance framework - including the Community Investment and Development Standard and the Local Procurement and Employment Standard.
  • The enterprise measurement and evaluation framework, moving the function from tracking spend and activity to assessing outcomes, distribution, and long-term value.
  • Portfolio-level analysis of socio-economic risk: community dependency, benefit distribution, value chain leakage, and economic diversification.
  • Technical advice to business units and sites on SED strategy - alternative livelihoods, enterprise development, local procurement and skills development, local employment, and community investment.
  • SED input into impact assessments, closure planning, community benefit agreements, and development foundation design.
  • SED performance data and analysis for Board, investor, and public reporting.
  • SED technical capability across the business, through guidance, training, and direct coaching of practitioners.

What You'll Bring
Essential
  • Deep experience in socio-economic development, community investment, or local content - in mining, extractives, infrastructure, or international development.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and evaluate development programs, and to assess whether they worked.
  • Strong analytical capability: impact assessment methodologies, indicator design, and data-driven reporting.
  • Ability to translate complex socio-economic evidence into decisions senior leaders can act on.
  • Credibility across cultures and contexts, from community engagement through to executive advisory.

Valued
  • Degree in economics, development studies, international relations, or a related discipline; postgraduate qualification preferred.
  • Familiarity with IFC Performance Standards, ICMM Principles, GRI Standards, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Experience with theory of change, input-output modelling, multiplier analysis, or distributional analysis.
  • Experience with artisanal and small-scale mining contexts or livelihood restoration programming.
  • Working knowledge of Spanish.

Your Work Environment
This role sits in Newmont's enterprise Social Performance team, reporting to the Head of Communities and Social Performance. You will work alongside two peer Principals covering operations and closure, and partner closely with business unit social performance leads, Commercial, People, Environment and Closure, and Legal - as well as development organizations, NGOs, consultants, and industry peers externally.
Newmont operates a decentralized social performance model: business units and sites own delivery, while this role sets direction, builds capability, and provides technical assurance.
The position can be based remotely, with a preference for proximity to a Newmont hub. Significant domestic and international travel is required, including visits to remote mine sites.
The salary range offered for this role is USD $143,200 - 204,500. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate's salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company's performance and their own individual performance.
Newmont offers a competitive and inclusive benefits package to support physical, mental, financial and emotional wellbeing. This role will be eligible for the following benefits: Medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision insurance; flexible spending accounts; health savings accounts; life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance; short and long-term disability; defined benefit pension; 401(k) program with company match; financial planning; employee assistance program (EAP); wellbeing reimbursement program; adoption assistance; tuition reimbursement; paid holidays and paid time off; paid family leave; matching gifts; and discounts on home, auto and pet insurance. All bonuses and benefits are subject to the applicable eligibility and program/plan terms and may be modified or terminated at Newmont's sole discretion.
When submitting your resume or CV or any other application materials (including school transcripts, proof of graduation, etc.) to Newmont, it's important to focus on your relevant skills, experience, and qualifications to show how well you fit the role. Pursuant to Colorado law, you may choose to remove or redact any age-identifying information (for example, age, date of birth, dates of school attendance, dates of school graduation, etc.). You will not be penalized for redacting or removing this information. Newmont is an equal employment opportunity employer, and does not make hiring decisions based on age or any other protected characteristics (e.g., gender, sexual orientation, disability, race, national origin, religion).
Please note that if you are offered a position, the company may need to verify your date of birth for preemployment screening purposes including background check and prohibited party screening. But age-related information is not required for the application process.
At Newmont, our people are our strength and we're committed to a safe, inclusive and supportive workplace. If you're passionate about doing work that matters, join Newmont and help shape the future of mining.
