What is new production?

'New Production' jobs generally refer to roles involved in the creation and launch of new products, services, or projects within a company. These positions often include responsibilities such as product development, project management, and coordination between different teams like engineering, marketing, and sales. Professionals in new production roles work to bring ideas from concept to market, ensuring quality, efficiency, and alignment with business goals. The scope of these jobs can vary widely depending on the industry and company size.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in new production roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in New Production roles often encounter challenges such as tight deadlines, coordinating with multiple departments, and adapting to changing project requirements. Effective communication and strong organizational skills are vital to manage these demands successfully. Building positive relationships with cross-functional teams and regularly updating project timelines can help mitigate potential issues. Additionally, staying proactive in identifying bottlenecks and embracing continuous improvement practices can contribute to smoother production launches.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a new production manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a New Production Manager, you need a solid background in manufacturing processes, project management, and a relevant degree such as engineering or industrial management. Familiarity with production planning software, ERP systems, and lean manufacturing certifications like Six Sigma are typically required. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills set top performers apart in this role. These skills ensure efficient production launches, cost control, and effective team coordination in dynamic manufacturing environments.

What is the difference between New Production vs Production Assistant?

Job description

Who we are
Atoms is building the machines that power the next era of progress.
Over the last decade, software has transformed the digital world. But the physical world, where food is made, minerals are mined, goods are moved, and industries are run, remains far less intelligent, far less efficient, and far more constrained. We're changing that.
Atoms builds Physical AI- real-world robots for the industries that move civilization forward, starting with food, mining, and transport. Our systems are designed to understand, predict, and control the real world with precision, turning complex physical operations into something more reliable, more scalable, and more productive.
This work requires more than robotics. It requires deep integration across hardware, software, AI, operations, manufacturing, and real estate. We don't just build machines in a lab. We deploy them into real environments, operate them, learn from them, and improve them until they work at scale.
We are roboticists, engineers, operators, and builders. We believe the next great technology companies will not only transform information, but the physical systems that shape everyday life.
If you want to work on hard problems with real-world impact, join us.
What you'll do
  • Work side by side with design engineers and engineering technicians on prototype builds to find issues and incorporate them back into design
  • Plan and execute pilot builds and drive learnings back into the design process
  • Develop ECO process including provisions for field retrofit process
  • Work with the operations teams to roll out hardware updates
  • Produce assembly and installation documentation for both internal and external audiences
  • Design operations / customer facing kits using the engineering BOMs including packaging and consumables
  • Update test procedures and fixtures in response to BOM and design changes ensuring test coverage is maintained with the product evolution
  • Define the production readiness criteria and own the hand off to steady state manufacturing
  • Work closely with the manufacturing team to design scalable work stations, procedures, and instructions
  • Specify the design of and partner with mechanical engineers on assembly and test fixtures

What we're looking for
  • 3+ years experience including hands on implementation of ECOs systems
  • Experience with Robotics, Autonomous vehicle, Automotive, or similarly complex systems
  • Experience standing up NPI processes from scratch
  • Experience scaling a hardware product from prototype to production
  • Experience managing engineering changes on products already deployed to customers
  • Experience with PLMs such as Arena, Windchill, Agile, 3Dx, including workflow configuration and ECO implementation
  • Experience with DFA / DFM for a variety of different manufacturing methods
  • Experience with SolidWorks or similar CAD tools
  • Experience building and/or working with schematics and harness documentation (e.g Zuken, Altium, Capital) is strongly preferred
  • Mechanical, manufacturing or similar engineering degree is required

Why join us
At Atoms, you'll work on one of the defining challenges of our time-bringing automation into the physical world to drive real, lasting impact. We exist to uncover valuable unknown truths and turn them into progress, which means constantly pushing beyond what's known and building what doesn't yet exist. The work is ambitious and often challenging, but it's grounded in a shared sense of purpose and a team committed to seeing it through together. Our work only matters if it serves others, and we know that meaningful progress depends on the trust of the people we serve and the strength of our team-so we invest in both, creating an environment where you can do your best work and grow.
What else you need to know
This role is based in our San Francisco office. Atoms is a company driven by invention and continuous change - we are constantly reimagining our industries, building new products, and refining how we operate. We do our best work together. That's why all of our office-based teams work onsite, five days a week.
The base salary range for this role is $182,000 - $230,000 per year.
Actual compensation will be determined on an individual basis and may vary depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package. You may also be eligible for equity awards.
Benefits Summary (USA Full-Time Exempt Employees):
  • Medical, Dental, Vision, Disability, and Life Insurance
  • Flexible Spending Account / Health Savings Account Options
  • 401(k)

  • Pre-Tax Commuter Benefit Plan
