They may work with domestic or international vendors to secure the best deals while maintaining quality standards. Effective product sourcing helps businesses reduce costs, improve profit margins, and maintain a competitive edge.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in product sourcing?

To excel in Product Sourcing, you need strong analytical skills, negotiation abilities, and a solid understanding of supply chain management, typically supported by experience in procurement or relevant certifications like Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM). Familiarity with sourcing platforms, procurement software (such as SAP Ariba), and vendor management systems is highly advantageous. Outstanding communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving abilities set top professionals apart in this field. These competencies ensure products are sourced cost-effectively and reliably, supporting a company's operational and financial goals.

What are some common challenges faced in a product sourcing role?

Product Sourcing professionals often encounter challenges such as identifying reliable suppliers, negotiating favorable terms, managing lead times, and handling unexpected disruptions in the supply chain. Staying up-to-date with market trends and regulatory compliance is essential, especially when sourcing from international vendors. Effective collaboration with cross-functional teams—including logistics, quality assurance, and product management—is important to ensure that sourced products meet company standards and customer expectations. Overcoming these challenges requires persistence, flexibility, and attention to detail, making the role both dynamic and rewarding.

As the Manager, Product Sourcing Engineering this individual will be responsible for managing a team of sourcing engineers and subcontract managers who will be the central point of contact for all supply chain needs in the product development process internally and externally. In this role, you will work with engineering, product program office and the broader production leadership team to support strategic sourcing initiatives and planning in pursuit of program and manufacturing goals, and lead cross-functional projects to achieve cost, quality, and delivery targets. You will partner closely with the SoCal Product Sourcing Engineering team to execute visions and troubleshoot issues with the supply base, working toward relevant localization.
