New Grad Technical Program Manager information

What is a New Grad Technical Program Manager?

A New Grad Technical Program Manager (TPM) is an entry-level professional who helps coordinate, plan, and execute technical projects within an organization, typically right after completing their degree. They work closely with engineering, product, and other cross-functional teams to ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope. While they may not have extensive industry experience, new grad TPMs leverage their academic background and organizational skills to facilitate communication, track project milestones, and resolve any issues that arise. This role is ideal for recent graduates who have strong technical understanding and enjoy project management responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a New Grad Technical Program Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a New Grad Technical Program Manager, you need a foundational understanding of software development processes, project management principles, and a relevant degree in computer science or engineering. Familiarity with project management tools like Jira, Agile methodologies, and basic knowledge of software development life cycles is commonly required. Strong communication, organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams help you stand out in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for effectively coordinating projects, bridging gaps between stakeholders, and ensuring timely delivery of technical solutions.

What are some common challenges new grad Technical Program Managers face when transitioning from school to the workplace?

New grad Technical Program Managers often face challenges such as adapting to fast-paced project timelines, managing cross-functional communication, and learning to balance technical depth with broader program oversight. Unlike academic projects, workplace initiatives involve coordinating with diverse teams, handling shifting priorities, and ensuring alignment between stakeholders. Building strong relationships, proactively seeking feedback, and developing organizational skills can help new grads successfully navigate these challenges and grow within the role.

Job description

EverPass is seeking a Technical Program Manager to fill two equally important functions: supporting our engineering and product teams as a business analyst and program coordinator, and managing our growing ecosystem of external technical partners and integrators.
This is a generalist role for someone who is organized, technically curious, and comfortable context-switching between internal team support and external partner management. On any given week, you might be writing requirements for an engineering sprint, onboarding a new integration partner, tracking down a bug with a third-party developer, or pulling together a status report for a product milestone.
Key Responsibilities
Business & Program Management (~50%)
  • Partner with Product Managers and Engineering leads to document requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria
  • Own sprint and project coordination tasks - maintaining backlogs, tracking milestones, and keeping stakeholders informed
  • Facilitate team rituals (standups, sprint planning, retros) when needed
  • Synthesize customer, partner, and internal feedback into structured product inputs
  • Maintain internal documentation, runbooks, and process guides
  • Build and track metrics and reporting dashboards for team and product health
  • Help draft and manage SOWs, vendor agreements, and cross-functional deliverables in coordination with Legal and Operations
  • Coordinate across teams - Engineering, Marketing, Legal, Solutions Engineering - to move projects forward and unblock dependencies

Technical Partner Management (~50%)
  • Own the onboarding process for integration partners, from intake and qualification through production launch
  • Evaluate partner technical capabilities and validate that integrations meet EverPass quality standards
  • Provide hands-on guidance and support through sandbox, validation, and production phases
  • Troubleshoot integration issues alongside partners and internal engineering teams
  • Maintain active relationships with AV vendors, integrators, and third-party developers
  • Track partner progress and integration status across all active engagements
  • Surface recurring integration patterns and partner feedback to Product to improve APIs over time

Qualifications
  • 3-5 years in a role that spans technical and operational work - Business Analysis, Technical Program Management, Solutions Engineering, Technical Account Management, or similar
  • Proven experience supporting an engineering or product team in a BA, PM, or coordination capacity
  • Familiarity with APIs (REST, authentication, basic debugging) and comfort engaging with technical teams
  • Experience working with external partners, vendors, or customers in a technical context
  • Strong written communication - able to document clearly, translate between technical and non-technical audiences, and keep projects moving
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and shifting priorities
  • Comfortable operating in an early-stage environment where processes are still being built

Nice-to-Have
  • AV industry experience
  • Experience with agile tooling (Jira, Linear, Notion, Confluence, or similar)
  • Familiarity with API debugging tools (Postman, etc.)
  • Basic scripting skills
