The Impact You'll Make in this Role
The person hired for the position of Project Manager will lead large, complex, high-priority New Product Commercialization programs within the Consumer Business Group (CBG) and support advancement of project management capability across the business. This role is accountable for driving execution across highly cross-functional teams while managing timeline, resourcing and critical issue resolution.
As a Project Manager, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
  • Leading a cross-functional team of scientists, engineers, and business personnel to define areas of opportunity, value proposition, technical approaches, intellectual property, and manufacturing options ultimately leading to successful commercialization.
  • Being accountable for maintaining project schedule, scope, deliverables, budget, risk management, stakeholder/customer communication and approvals, and other key project deliverables.
  • Providing task-level guidance to team members as necessary and using influence to lead the team in identifying key milestones and driving decisions to closure.
  • Having expertise in technical functional areas sufficient to carry out leadership duties, contribute to advancement of the team, and to effectively leverage a network of company resources.
  • Training, coaching, and supporting project leaders and team members in project management best practices, while helping strengthen project management capability across the business.

Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start)
  • Eight (8) years of project management and/or team leadership experience in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline from an accredited institution
  • New product development experience
  • Experience with New Product Introduction Process and Executing Gate Reviews
  • Consumer product development experience
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written and presentation)
  • Ability to influence including clarifying risks and opportunities with stakeholders
  • Experience leading global cross-functional teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Project
  • Project Management Institute's Project Management Professional (PMP) certification

Work location:
  • On-Site: Maplewood, MN
  • This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN.
  • Travel: May include up to 10% domestic/international
  • Relocation: Not Authorized
