SUMMARY
The Manager, Cost Accounting and Manufacturing FP&A will be responsible for owning the Company's inventory accounting, cost accounting processes, and manufacturing finance activities to ensure accurate reporting of Cost of Goods Sold (COGS), inventory, manufacturing expenses, and operational performance metrics.
This role will serve as a key finance business partner to Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Procurement, Accounting, and FP&A teams, providing financial insights and supporting data-driven decision-making across the organization. The Manager will play a critical role in developing and improving cost accounting processes, analyzing manufacturing performance, supporting budgeting and forecasting activities, and ensuring accurate financial reporting within a growing biotech organization.
The ideal candidate has proven experience in biotech or pharmaceutical manufacturing environments, strong technical cost accounting expertise, hands-on NetSuite experience, and the ability to partner cross-functionally in a dynamic, growth-stage organization.
This is a full-time onsite position requiring 3 days per week in our Somerville - Assembly Row, Massachusetts office.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Cost Accounting & Inventory Management
  • Own accounting processes related to inventory, manufacturing costs, and COGS, including raw materials, work-in-process, finished goods, and external manufacturing/testing costs.
  • Manage inventory accounting activities including reconciliations, journal entries, inventory reserves, excess and obsolete inventory analysis, and manufacturing cost variances.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve cost accounting models, standard costing methodologies, and manufacturing reporting processes.
  • Review and analyze manufacturing variances, including material, labor, overhead, yield, and production-related drivers.
  • Support quarterly standard cost reviews and ensure accurate reflection of manufacturing costs.

NetSuite & Process Improvement
  • Serve as a key finance owner for inventory and cost accounting processes within NetSuite.
  • Support optimization and continued improvement of NetSuite inventory, COGS, and manufacturing-related modules.
  • Partner with Accounting and operational stakeholders to improve financial systems, reporting accuracy, and scalability of processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to manufacturing finance controls, workflows, and reporting.

Manufacturing FP&A & Business Partnership
  • Partner with FP&A and Manufacturing leadership on annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, and long-range planning related to manufacturing costs and operational activities.
  • Analyze actual results versus budget and forecast, identify key drivers, and provide insights to support business decisions.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing KPIs, dashboards, and financial analyses to monitor performance.
  • Support gross margin analysis, cost trends, capacity planning, and operational efficiency initiatives.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to improve manufacturing performance and cost management.

Financial Reporting & Compliance
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close activities related to inventory and manufacturing costs.
  • Prepare accurate and timely cost accounting reports and analyses for internal stakeholders.
  • Partner with Technical Accounting, Accounting, and external auditors to support compliance and audit requirements.
  • Assist with documentation and maintenance of internal controls related to manufacturing finance processes.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Support ad hoc financial analysis and strategic projects as needed.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships across Finance, Manufacturing, Technical Operations, Supply Chain, and Procurement.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 4+ years of progressive experience in cost accounting, manufacturing finance, or related finance roles within the life sciences, biotech, or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Proven experience with biotech/pharmaceutical manufacturing cost accounting, including internal and external manufacturing, testing costs, inventory accounting, and COGS.
  • Hands-on experience with NetSuite required, including inventory, costing, and financial reporting functionality.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing FP&A activities including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and operational reporting.
  • Strong understanding of inventory accounting, BOMs, standard costing, manufacturing variances, and gross margin analysis.
  • Experience partnering cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Procurement, and Operations teams.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate financial data into actionable business insights.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, growth-stage biotech or pharmaceutical environment preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across functions.
  • Cost accounting certification (such as CMA) preferred but not required.

Additional Information
The pay transparency range provided below is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and long-term incentive. Actual base salary pay will be based on several factors, including but not limited to experience, skills, relevant education/qualifications, external market, internal equity, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
