Job Description:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

Food Preparation & Cooking:

  • Prepare ingredients, including washing, cutting, and measuring, according to recipes. 
  • Cook and bake using a variety of kitchen equipment such as stoves, ovens, grills, and fryers. 
  • Ensure food is cooked to the appropriate temperature and meets quality standards in taste, texture, and presentation. 
  • Assist in menu planning by providing input on new dishes and preparing daily specials.

Kitchen Organization & Cleanliness: 

  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen by properly storing ingredients and equipment. 
  • Monitor and replenish inventory, ensuring stock levels are maintained. 
  • Follow all food safety and hygiene regulations, including proper storage and temperature monitoring. 
  • Participate in cleaning duties, including washing dishes, utensils, and kitchen surfaces.

Collaboration & Quality Control:

  • Work as part of a kitchen team, communicating effectively with chefs, line cooks, and dishwashers. 
  • Ensure that food is prepared and served in a timely manner, especially during busy periods. 
  • Monitor the quality of food throughout the cooking process, tasting and inspecting dishes for consistency. 
  • Adapt to changes in the menu, kitchen procedures, or special guest requests.

Responsible Business Practices:

  • Adhere to all hotel safety protocols and report any maintenance or equipment issues. 
  • Maintain compliance with Maya Hotels’ Grooming Policy—a smile is considered part of the uniform. 
  • Comply with Maya Hotels policies, procedures, and Code of Ethics. 
  • Practice safe working habits, including proper lifting and handling of kitchen equipment. 
  • Participate in sustainability efforts, including waste reduction and recycling initiatives.

Education, Skills and Abilities:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. 
  • Experience: Previous experience as a cook or culinary training is typically required. Knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods, and culinary terminology. 
  • Communication Skills: Ability to interact professionally with team members.
  • Attention to Details: Strong organizational skills, food safety and sanitation regulations and practices.
  • Team Player: Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with team members.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work varied schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during service hours.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., including food trays, beverage crates, and inventory items.
