Job description

As a Refinery Chemist you will perform laboratory operations, maintain regulatory compliance (especially reformulated gasoline), oversee and train Lab Technicians and Shift Chemists, and complete special projects. Perform environmental chemist duties, to include: the required chemical testing of wastewater and storm water for TNRCC/NPDES permits and the non-permit testing of other environmental samples, as well as any reports and record keeping needed to validate the results..

  • Perform analyses, calibrations, methods, and maintenance and repairs of instruments.
  • Perform special projects as assigned by Laboratory Superintendent.
  • Maintain analytical specialization in certain areas.
  • Assist with regulatory compliance, especially with reformulated gasoline.
  • Train and oversee Lab Techs and Shift Chemists in the use of instruments
  • Perform eleven required tests on wastewater for permits.
  • Test storm water for COD, oil and grease.
  • Test sour water stripper samples for ammonia and sulfide.
  • Other duties as assigned (ordering of instrumentation, supplies, etc.)

This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Memphis Refinery, required.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Biology, Bio-Chemistry, Physics, or related field required.
  • 3 years of directly related laboratory experience required.
