What is a music temp?

Music Temps, or temporary music workers, are professionals hired on a short-term or contract basis to fulfill specific roles in the music industry. They may work as musicians, sound engineers, producers, or assistants for live events, studio sessions, or administrative tasks. Music Temps help organizations manage workload spikes, special projects, or staff absences without long-term employment commitments. This flexibility benefits both employers and workers, allowing for diverse experiences and networking opportunities. Music Temps often find work through staffing agencies or direct freelance arrangements.

How does a music temp typically interact with other departments during a project?

As a Music Temp, you'll often collaborate closely with the production, editing, and sound departments to ensure the temporary music tracks align with the director's vision and the project's pacing. Clear communication with editors and producers is essential, as you'll need to adapt quickly to feedback and changes in scene timing. This collaborative environment helps you develop strong interpersonal and technical skills, and can provide valuable insight into the workflow of larger music and post-production teams.
