Primary Purpose:

Provide students in grades with engaging music instruction that promotes creativity, appreciation of music, performance skills, and overall student development through vocal, instrumental, and general music education activities. 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

Knowledge of music curriculum and instructional strategies

Ability to work effectively with students, staff, and parents

Demonstrated competency in instrumental music

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of overall operation of instrumental music program

Knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior

Ability to interpret data

Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

Experience:

Student teaching or approved internship experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Strategies

  1. Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with state standards and district curriculum.
  2. Teach music concepts including rhythm, melody, harmony, movement, singing, and instrument use appropriate for elementary grade levels.
  3. Plan and conduct engaging classroom activities that encourage participation and creativity.
  4. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
  5. Utilize a variety of instructional materials, technology, and teaching strategies.
  6. Assess student progress and maintain accurate records of student achievement.
  7. Prepare students for school performances, programs, and special events as assigned.
  8. Be a positive role model for students and support mission of the school district.

Classroom Management and Organization

  1. Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  2. Manage student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  3. Accompany and supervise students on out-of-town trip activities and arrange transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events.
  4. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, material, and facilities.

Communication

  1. Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and classroom activities.
  2. Collaborate with campus staff and administration to support student success.
  3. Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and campus activities.
  4. Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.

Budget and Inventory

  1. Maintain current inventory of all fixed assets related to the program.
  2. Oversee cleaning, repairing, and storing of all instruments and equipment.
  3. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.

    Professional Growth and Development

  4. Maintain professional conduct and appearance in accordance with district standards.
  5. Comply with all district policies, procedures, and state regulations.
  6. Continue professional growth through workshops, trainings, and professional learning opportunities.
  7. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  8. Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, UIL rules, and board policy in the band area.
