Through compelling photography, video, and visual storytelling, you'll help connect audiences to the transformative work happening across Trinity's more than 40 academic departments and programs.

As a multimedia storyteller and lead photographer for Trinity College, you will create engaging visual content that supports strategic communications, student recruitment, research visibility, and community engagement.

What You'll Do

Lead Visual Storytelling Initiatives

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive visual storytelling strategy that highlights research, teaching excellence, student experiences, and faculty achievements.
  • Collaborate closely with communications, marketing, academic, and administrative partners to identify and capture compelling stories.
  • Translate complex academic concepts and research into accessible, audience-focused visual narratives.

Create High-Impact Photography

  • Lead all phases of photography production, including:
    • Concept development
    • Creative direction
    • Location scouting
    • Scheduling and logistics
    • On-site lighting and photography sessions
    • Image editing and retouching
    • Asset delivery and distribution
  • Produce exceptional photography for websites, social media, newsletters, publications, and recruitment materials.

Produce Multimedia Content

  • Create short- and long-form video content supporting strategic storytelling initiatives.
  • Capture and edit video footage for digital platforms and marketing campaigns.
  • Design select visual assets and graphics to support integrated communications efforts.
  • Ensure all content reflects Duke's brand standards and storytelling goals.

Manage Digital Assets & Equipment

  • Help maintain Trinity's digital asset management system by organizing content, improving accessibility, and supporting asset retrieval.
  • Contribute to visual asset cataloging and metadata management.
  • Assist in managing photography and videography equipment inventories.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend tools that enhance production capabilities.

Drive Innovation

  • Stay informed about emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in photography, videography, and multimedia communication.
  • Build relationships with peers across Duke to share expertise, collaborate on projects, and advance creative excellence.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring

Education

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Media Production, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Media Production, Visual Media, or a related discipline.
  • Higher Education experience preferred.  

Experience

Required

  • Minimum of two years of professional media production, photography, or multimedia content creation experience.

Preferred

  • Four or more years of professional photography and multimedia production experience.
  • Demonstrated experience producing high-quality visual content across multiple platforms.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong visual storytelling capabilities and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to transform complex academic, research, and institutional topics into engaging visual narratives.
  • Advanced photography expertise, including:
    • Lighting techniques

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $49,939.00 to USD $79,487.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
