Job description

Learning Experience Designer (LXD)
St. Ambrose University is seeking a Learning Experience Designer (LXD). This individual will collaborate with faculty, instructors, and subject matter experts to design, develop, and continuously improve engaging learning experiences across all instructional modalities. This position serves as a key partner in course development, instructional innovation, learning technology support, and student success initiatives.
The LXD works closely with academic departments to ensure courses align with curriculum and program outcomes, support accreditation and compliance requirements, and reflect best practices in teaching and learning. The successful candidate will also help expand effective use of the University's Learning Management System (LMS) and contribute to faculty development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with instructors and subject matter experts to design and enhance courses using effective instructional strategies and educational technologies.
  • Review courses throughout the development process to ensure quality, accessibility, compliance, and alignment with learning outcomes.
  • Manage multiple course development projects and meet established deadlines.
  • Design and deliver faculty orientations, workshops, and training programs that support teaching excellence.
  • Develop instructional resources, guides, and exemplars to support course design efforts.
  • Provide LMS support and consultation to faculty across campuses and delivery formats.
  • Conduct course reviews and analyses to support student learning and program assessment initiatives.
  • Participate in professional development and university activities that advance departmental and institutional goals.

Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Curriculum Development, Educational Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in teaching and learning, curriculum development, instructional design, or a related area.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience supporting online or blended learning environments.
  • Experience with D2L Brightspace or a comparable Learning Management System.
  • Familiarity with Quality Matters standards.
  • Experience with authoring and multimedia tools such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, Canva, Camtasia, and Illustrator.
