Job Summary/Description:
Gray Media is looking for an energetic, creative, and community-focused Weekend Sports Anchor to join our newsroom. This position is ideal for a strong storyteller who is passionate about local sports, thrives under deadline pressure, and knows how to connect with viewers across broadcast, digital, and social platforms.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Anchor weekend sportscasts and deliver engaging, accurate, and conversational sports coverage.
- Enterprise, shoot, write, edit, and present sports stories for broadcast, digital, mobile, and social platforms.
- Cover local high school, college, professional, and community sports events as assigned.
- Produce compelling sports content under tight deadlines.
- Develop strong contacts with coaches, athletes, athletic departments, schools, and community organizations.
- Contribute sports content during the week, including feature stories, previews, recaps, and digital updates.
- Post timely and engaging content to the station website, app, and social media platforms.
- Shoot and edit video using newsroom equipment and editing software.
- Collaborate with producers, reporters, photographers, digital staff, and newsroom managers.
- Represent the station professionally in the community.
- Assist with special sports coverage, including playoffs, tournaments, signing days, and major local sporting events.
- Follow journalistic standards for fairness, accuracy, ethics, and professionalism.
- Perform other duties as assigned by newsroom leadership.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, broadcasting, or related field preferred.
- Previous experience anchoring, reporting, shooting, and editing sports content preferred.
- Strong on-air presence with excellent writing, storytelling, and live presentation skills.
- Ability to shoot, write, edit, and post stories independently.
- Strong knowledge of local, regional, and national sports.
- Must be comfortable working nights, weekends, holidays, and flexible schedules as news and sports coverage require.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong digital and social media skills.
- Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
- Must be a team player with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment as needed.
- Must demonstrate sound editorial judgment and commitment to accuracy.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with ENPS, iNews, Edius, Adobe Premiere, or similar newsroom/editing systems.
