Multilingual Learner (ML) Teacher 

Job Title: Multilingual Learner (ML) Teacher - Valid NC Licensure Required

Job Status: Full-Time/10-Month

Location: Lucy S. Herring Elementary & Isaac Dickson Elementary School

General Statement of Job

The Multilingual Learner (ML) Teacher position will support a caseload of multilingual learners in all aspects of their educational experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct support to a caseload of multilingual learners
  • Appropriately modify and adapt instruction for multilingual learners
  • Work with school administration and general education teachers to implement best practices for serving multilingual learners
  • Advocate for multilingual learners in all aspects of their educational experience
  • Support and take part in the development, implementation, and articulation of the District's K-12 Language Instruction Educational Program (LIEP).
  • Provide professional development for general education teachers, when appropriate, to facilitate more effective instruction for multilingual learners
  • Effectively communicate with the families of multilingual learners and serve as the liaison between the school and the family
  • Implement the screening and identification process for multilingual learners, including administering the WIDA Screener
  • Administer the WIDA Access assessment
  • Participate in training opportunities to develop and strengthen knowledge on current techniques in language acquisition, English Language Development, Long Term English Learner strategies, and other related topics
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the principal and carry out non-instructional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field
  • Current NC Teaching certificate, including ESL certification
  • Strong advocate for multilingual students and their families
  • Maintains an equity lens that elevates the voices of students and families from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching English Language Development
  • Experience working with Hispanic, Pacific Islander, Chinese, and Ukrainian communities
