Aventura at Oakwood is seeking an experienced and dedicated Unit Manager to lead our nursing team and ensure the delivery of exceptional, person-centered care to our residents. This leadership role is ideal for a skilled nursing professional who is passionate about clinical excellence, team development, and enhancing the quality of life for seniors in a long-term care setting.

Position Summary

The Unit Manager is responsible for overseeing the clinical operations and management of a designated nursing unit within our facility. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality resident care while maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as facility policies and procedures. The Unit Manager provides leadership, supervision, and support to nursing staff and collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary team to promote resident well-being, safety, and satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Supervision

  • Direct and supervise nursing staff, including RNs, LPNs, and CNAs, to ensure quality resident care.

  • Monitor resident health status and ensure timely assessments, care planning, and documentation.

  • Conduct daily rounds to evaluate resident care, staff performance, and unit operations.

  • Oversee and participate in resident admissions, transfers, and discharges.

  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention, medication administration, and safety protocols.

Staff Management & Development

  • Schedule, assign, and evaluate nursing staff on the unit.

  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance evaluations.

  • Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and training new team members.

  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that promotes accountability, teamwork, and professional growth.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including CMS requirements.

  • Participate in audits, surveys, and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation in medical records and electronic health systems.

Resident & Family Relations

  • Communicate effectively and compassionately with residents and their families.

  • Address concerns promptly and professionally.

  • Participate in care conferences and advocate for resident rights, preferences, and individualized care plans.

Administrative & Operational Duties

  • Monitor staffing levels, supplies, and equipment to support efficient operations.

  • Report and follow up on incidents, accidents, and unusual occurrences.

  • Collaborate with department leaders to ensure coordinated and comprehensive resident care.

Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

  • BSN preferred.

Licensure

  • Current and active RN or LPN license in the state of employment.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2–3 years of clinical experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, or geriatric nursing.

  • At least 1 year of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
