Job description

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible daily for all freight movements for Howmet Aerospace, including Central Dispatch and Howmet Transport Services (HTS) trucks, trailers and drivers. Central Dispatch is coordination of freight moving into and out of all Howmet Aerospace facilities on commercial carriers. This position, in coordination with the rest of the HTS team, builds schedules to maximize profitability and minimize costs for all divisions of Howmet Aerospace. This position will also oversee inbound freight from suppliers, vendors, and customers to Howmet facilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Prioritize and facilitate freight movement for all modes of transit, including but not limited to, small package, less than truckload (LTL), truckload, intermodal, and expedite through Howmet Aerospace contracted commercial carriers and internet based tendering tools.
  • Facilitate equipment utilization to maximize capabilities of HTS internal trucks and drivers, while also looking for new and creative ways to encapsulate Howmet freight onto our internal trucks to maximize efficiencies.
  • Facilitate and coordinate driver schedules and trip planning for single and team driver operations.
  • Coordinate dock operations to ensure all trailers are loaded/unloaded to meet HTS schedules and the demands of the Howmet business.
  • Minimize equipment downtime by ensuring that all equipment gets scheduled for routine PM’s
  • Ensure accuracy of trip information prior to processing.
  • Communicate daily with drivers, HTS dispatch team, customers, vendors, and other Howmet facilities.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Job responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Compliance with all Howmet policies and procedures.
  • Compliance with all EHS rules required at the plants and all DOT regulations for over the road operations.
  • Must be able to function as a member of a team, assist team members when needed, and be able to work under general supervision in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Availability to assist drivers with problems via phone, after hours, as needed.
  • Interacts daily with all Howmet facilities, suppliers, and customers concerning freight pick up and deliveries via phone, email, text, or IM.
  • Provides guidance to Howmet facility personnel concerning carrier selection, booking freight and general freight related questions.
  • Arranges for commercial carriers to transport freight outside of HTS service areas or capabilities through an internet based tendering tool and direct communication with carriers.
  • Schedules and coordinates all freight moving on HTS.
  • Schedules for drivers and equipment for HTS.
  • Coordinates equipment maintenance schedules with Penske while accommodating the daily needs of HTS
  • Enters, reviews and approves all trip information preceding the billing and payroll functions of HTS.
  • Performs routine special projects, as directed.
  • Assists, when required, with other departmental back-up duties
  • Maintains positive customer and supplier relationships
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned
  • Work Overtime as needed.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • The position requires a minimum of a HS Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 years of related experience in dispatch experience in an LTL or private carrier environment.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant's ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.

  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, to assist effectively with customers, suppliers, or employees within the company.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs a plus.
  • Ability to rapidly grasp concepts and understand processes.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments.
  • Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
