Job Description

About the Role
The purpose of the IBMi Software Developer role is to develop and support software solutions delivered by the Newcastle Building Society (NBS) Group. You are responsible for developing high quality software. Working independently and as part of a team you will analyse business requirements, design and specify program changes, code the solutions, provide implementation and post implementation support within agreed timeframes, procedures and standards.

You will play a key role in the development of systems requirements within the NBS Group. Undertake systems analysis, design and specification of new and existing system changes whilst maintaining high standards of software development in accordance with agreed standards change control procedures

You are expected to prepare relevant documentation for change implementation in accordance with agreed standards and timescales, communicating implementation schedules to business stakeholders and provide post implementation user support for system changes and ensure that any problems are identified and appropriate remedial action is taken.

Assisting in the evaluation of external software solutions when required, undertaking research into new technology and promote awareness of new developments which may be applicable to the Group.

About You
You should be educated to degree level in a relevant subject and bring a strong foundation of technical and business knowledge. You have welldeveloped programming skills, including program design, working with relevant languages, frameworks, and design patterns, supported by solid database and application knowledge.

Experience with production platforms such as IBMi and Microsoft .NET is desirable, as is a good understanding of financial services and the business context in which technology operates. You're used to working to defined policies, standards, and methodologies, ensuring best practice in software development at all times.

As a confident problem solver you should be able to apply initiative and analytical thinking to design and deliver effective software solutions. You can lead technical developments collaboratively, while also working independently when required. You communicate clearly and effectively, understand risk and impact, and place a strong emphasis on quality, testing your own work, paying close attention to detail, and taking pride in accuracy.

You should have experience working in a mid to seniorlevel development role and a proven track record of delivering successful outcomes in Scrum or Agile, multidisciplinary environments. Experience in the technologies used by the group is beneficial, as is working within a managed risk culture.
