Home Accessibility Consultant

Location: This is a field-based role centered in Charlotte, NC, with regular travel to client homes across the greater Charlotte area and nearby South Carolina communities. Travel expectations may vary based on client demand and the candidate's home location.

Carolina Home Access helps seniors, veterans, people with disabilities, and individuals recovering from an injury or medical event remain safely in the homes they love. We provide stair lifts, wheelchair ramps, grab bars, handrails, bathroom modifications, lighting improvements, equipment rentals, and other accessibility solutions. We are looking for a compassionate healthcare or accessibility professional who is comfortable guiding families through important decisions. This is sales, but it is not about pressure. It is about listening carefully, identifying risks, recommending the right solution, and helping clients confidently move forward.

As a Home Accessibility Consultant, you will meet with clients and families in their homes, evaluate their routines and accessibility challenges, and recommend practical solutions. The ideal candidate understands activities of daily living and has experience working directly with older adults, people with disabilities, rehabilitation patients, or families navigating changing mobility needs. You should also be comfortable asking for the business and clearly explaining why recommended improvements are important. This opportunity is especially well suited to an occupational therapist, physical therapist, home health professional, nurse, aging-in-place specialist, accessibility consultant, or other healthcare professional seeking flexible and meaningful supplemental work.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct nonclinical in-home accessibility consultations.
• Ask clients about daily routines, mobility challenges, home-access concerns, and personal goals.
• Observe entrances, stairways, bathrooms, bedrooms, lighting, and other relevant areas of the home.
• Explain available options, including stair lifts, ramps, grab bars, handrails, bathroom-safety solutions, lighting improvements, and other home modifications.
• Present recommendations, pricing, project scope, and available options clearly and accurately.
• Explain safety considerations in a factual and balanced manner without pressure or fear-based sales tactics.
• Respect each client's right to decline, delay, compare options, or seek advice from a healthcare professional.
• Follow up with clients and families, answer questions, and provide accurate information.
• Prepare complete notes, measurements, photographs when authorized, and project information for the installation team.
• Coordinate with company leadership and installers to confirm that proposed solutions are practical and consistent with company capabilities.
• Develop appropriate relationships with healthcare and community professionals through ethical outreach.
• Protect personal, health-related, financial, and household information in accordance with company policy and applicable requirements.
• Recommend only products and services that reasonably address the client's stated needs.

Qualifications

• Relevant professional experience in home accessibility, aging-in-place services, occupational therapy, physical therapy, home health, nursing, rehabilitation, gerontology, interior design, construction sales, or a related field.
• Understanding of activities of daily living, mobility limitations, fall-prevention concepts, disability needs, or home-safety considerations.
• Experience in consultative sales, including discussing pricing, answering questions, following up, and asking clients whether they are ready to proceed.
• Strong observation, communication, organization, documentation, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to explain product and accessibility options in clear, nontechnical language.
• Ability to use scheduling, customer-relationship, measurement, and communication technology.
• Reliable transportation and willingness to travel throughout the assigned service area.
• Valid driver's license, reliable personal transportation, and the ability to travel to client homes throughout the service area.
• Ability to successfully complete a background check upon a conditional job offer, subject to applicable federal, state, and local laws.
• Ability to lift and carry basic assessment tools, product samples, and measuring equipment (up to approximately 25 pounds) and to take accurate measurements within clients' homes.
• Ability to use a smartphone, tablet, or laptop to document consultations, measurements, photographs (with client permission), and project information.

CAPS, CEAC, occupational therapy, physical therapy, nursing, or related credentials are preferred but not required when supported by relevant experience. Any employee who uses a regulated professional title or performs licensed services must hold all required current credentials.

Compensation

• Part-time W-2 employment. This is a part-time position with the potential to grow into a full-time role as the company continues to expand.
• Compensation is commission-only at 5%, plus travel adjustments.
• Paid time for required consultations, documentation, follow-up, meetings, and training. Eligible employees may receive a documented performance bonus based on consultation quality, customer service, accurate documentation, ethical sales performance, and overall company results.
• Incentives do not permit recommending unnecessary products or services and are not based on medical advice or benefit approvals.
