Description
The Accounting Intern will support the Finance and Accounting team at Milford Mining Company with a primary focus on assisting with ERP system implementation, integration, and optimization efforts within a mining and mineral processing environment. This role operates at the intersection of accounting, business processes, and technology, providing hands-on experience in how financial systems support operational performance.
The intern will work closely with accounting, operations, and IT resources to support the rollout and continuous improvement of ERP systems, including data validation, process mapping, system testing, and reporting alignment. In addition, the role will provide exposure to core accounting functions such as cost accounting, accounts payable, purchasing, inventory controls, and financial reporting within an operating copper mine and processing facility.

Essential Functions
ERP & Systems Support (Primary Focus)
  • Assist with ERP implementation activities, including data migration, validation, and cleanup
  • Support user acceptance testing (UAT) by executing test scripts and documenting results
  • Help document and map current and future-state accounting and operational processes
  • Assist in identifying and resolving data discrepancies and system issues
  • Support the development of system workflows, reports, and dashboards aligned with accounting and operational needs
  • Collaborate with accounting, operations, and IT teams to ensure accurate system configuration and functionality
  • Maintain documentation related to ERP processes, controls, and system changes

Accounting & Finance Support (Secondary Focus)
  • Assist with accounts payable processing, invoice coding, and three-way matching
  • Support purchase order tracking and vendor documentation
  • Assist in reconciling general ledger accounts and preparing journal entries
  • Support monthly close processes, including expense accruals and cost allocations
  • Assist with inventory cycle counts and materials reconciliation
  • Help track production costs and review cost center reporting
  • Maintain organized electronic and physical accounting records
  • Assist with data entry and verification within accounting systems
  • Support audit preparation and documentation as requested
  • Perform special projects and financial analysis assignments as needed

Work Environment
  • Primarily sedentary office work as well as occasional warehouse tasks required, with occasional standing and walking. May involve light lifting of files or documents (up to 20 lbs).

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
The administration office hours are generally Monday-Friday from 7am - 5pm, and the internship will take place during these days/hours due to business need and intern work availability.
Travel
Travel between buildings on the property may be required at times.
Requirements
Required
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Completion of at least sophomore-level coursework
  • Basic understanding of financial accounting principles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Preferred
  • Coursework or exposure to ERP systems, accounting systems, data analytics, cost accounting or managerial accounting
  • Interest in systems implementation, business process improvement, or technology in accounting
  • Prior internship or relevant experience in accounting, IT, or data-related roles
