Job description

USAM DC, a high-end architectural millwork firm base in Northern VA, is looking for a Field Superintendent to act as the primary on-site leader for custom millwork installation projects for our facility in Manassas, VA.ย This roleย is responsible forย coordinating installation, verifying field conditions, managing material flow, ensuring quality and schedule alignment, andย maintainingย clear communication between general contractors, project managers, installers, and the shop.ย 

The Field Superintendent is a field-first, hands-on role, accountable for daily jobsite execution from pre-installation through final walkthrough.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work with blueprints and effectively read and interpretย architectural and millwork shop drawings.ย 

  • Coordinate and oversee daily installation activities on active jobsites to ensure work is up to project specifications and AWI standards.ย 

  • Supervise and coordinateย installationย crews and subcontracted labor on-site.ย 

  • Work on ladders, lifts, and otherย equipmentย as necessary.ย 

  • Takeย precise field measurements along with layout (often digitally on a tablet)ย for custom architectural millwork including casework, tops, wall panels, desks, and other specialty items, with laser measuring devices or similar field measurement tools.ย 

  • Use levels,ย tape measure,ย chalk box,ย framing squares, and surveying equipment to verify site conditions.ย 

  • Perform job checks andย verifyย logisticsย information for jobsites.ย 

  • Receive, verify, andย helpย foremanย manage delivery of millwork and related materials.ย 

  • Inspect materials upon arrival for damage, completeness, and conformance to specifications.ย 

  • Coordinate material staging, protection, and accessibility within the jobsite.ย 

  • Communicate material shortages, damages, or discrepanciesย in a timely manner.ย 

  • Anticipate and problem-solve jobsite conditions and installation issues.ย 

  • Review project punch list and execute plan to complete.ย 

  • Manage warranty andย callback work as needed.ย 

  • Serve as the primary on-site point of contact forย jobsiteย coordination with field personnel,ย architectsย and project management.ย 

  • Attend and lead site meetings as needed, clearlyย communicatingย jobsite conditions and updates.ย 

  • Maintain professional relationships with clients through effective communication and problem solving.ย 

  • Monitor installation progress to ensure work is progressing according to schedule and provide feedback to clients and project managers.ย 

  • Manage daily schedules andย tasks asย assigned.ย 

  • Provide daily or periodicย jobsiteย updates, including photo documentation as needed.ย 

  • Travels to multiple job sites daily, mostly in the surrounding areaย ofย the manufacturing facility.ย 

  • Assistย project management withย take offs, work orders, and other items as needed.ย 

  • Other tasksย and assignments as directed.ย ย 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:ย 

Preferred Education and Skills (in addition to the required):ย 

  • Experience using laser measuring devices or similar field measurement systems (e.g., Leicaย Distoย or equivalent)ย 

  • Familiarity with Bluebeamย 

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Construction Management, Business, or a related fieldย 

Requiredย Education and Skills:ย 

  • High school diploma or equivalentย 

  • 10+ yearsย of experience inย commercial construction, millworkย installation, or field supervisionย 

  • Proficient with field verifications and field dimensions โ€ฏย 

  • Proficient computer skills in MS Office Suite productsย 

  • Proficient with field technology (tablets, smartphones, digital plans)ย ย 

  • Working knowledge of AWI requirements and guidelinesย ย 

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail,ย andย ability to prioritize and meet deadlinesย 

  • Ability to read andย comprehendย architectural drawings and technical specificationsย 

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with fluctuating priorities and deadlinesย 

  • Ability to work in a dusty and noisy construction site environmentย ย ย 

  • Ability toย lift upย to 50 poundsย 

  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teamsย 

  • Must have reliable personal vehicle, with a valid driversโ€™ license andย good drivingย recordย 

  • Must be able to travel to jobsites; some overnight travel may beย requiredย ย 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skillsย 

  • Reliable attendance and consistent work scheduleย
