Job description

USG is currently recruiting for a Mine/Mill Manager for our gypsum plant, based in Sperry, IA.

The Mine/Mill Manager position is a challenging opportunity for a motivated individual to demonstrate their leadership and technical experience for the building materials market. This location is an underground mining operation.

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for safety, quality, and efficiencies for the Mine and Mill departments. The position has one General Foreman and two Project Engineers as direct reports. Overall, the Mine/Mill Manager has 65 employees in the two departments.

Responsibilities:

- Foster a strong safety culture and continue to make the mine and mill safer environments to work.

- Oversight of department safety initiatives, including MSHA compliance.

- Develop formidable relationships with internal departments including production, distribution, CI, quality and human resources is also critical for success.

- Coach and develop workforce potential and foster morale.

- Proactively develop and implement strategies to meet plant rock and stucco production requirements over the short and long term.

- Establish, monitor and maintain the mobile equipment fleet.

- Effectively manage the facility planning process and execute capital projects and mobile equipment purchases.

Qualifications:

- Mine or Quarry background with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. (Mining/Geological preferred.) Prior experience as a department manager is a plus but not required.

- Previous work experience in a mine preferred.

- Strong leadership aptitude, decision making and people handling skills to manage and develop others in a diverse workforce environment.

- Capacity to engage employees and effectively build rapport.

- Demonstrated organizational skills with strong communication capacity (verbal and written) with ability to manage multiple projects effectively.

- In depth knowledge of safety compliance programs, including MSHA.

- Adept at problem solving, decision making and strategic planning. Track record implementing continuous improvements.

Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
