Overview
E2 is seeking a Senior Transmission Line Engineer to lead the design and delivery of overhead transmission line projects ranging from 69 kV to 500 kV. This role serves as a technical leader responsible for complex design execution, quality assurance, and mentorship of junior staff while supporting project managers and interfacing directly with utility clients.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in transmission line design, strong proficiency in industry tools, and the ability to drive production efficiency without compromising quality.
Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Design
  • Lead the design of overhead transmission lines, including:
    • Routing support and constructability input
    • Structure spotting and optimization
    • Plan & profile development
    • Conductor selection and hardware specification
  • Perform and oversee advanced engineering analyses:
    • Sag-tension modeling
    • Clearance compliance (NESC, GO 95, utility-specific standards)
    • Load tree development and design criteria validation
  • Serve as the technical authority for PLS-CADD models and outputs

Quality Assurance & Oversight
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of design packages, drawings, and calculations
  • Ensure consistency with client standards and regulatory requirements
  • Identify and resolve complex design challenges and risks

Project Delivery
  • Support project managers in maintaining schedule, scope, and budget
  • Drive production efficiency to meet high-volume delivery targets
  • Coordinate with structural engineers, survey teams, environmental, and permitting teams
  • Support construction by responding to RFIs and field issues

Client Interface
  • Serve as a primary technical point of contact for utility clients
  • Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, and stakeholder coordination
  • Support proposal development, scope definition, and level-of-effort estimates

Mentorship & Team Development
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to entry-level and mid-level engineers
  • Review and improve team workflows, standards, and best practices
  • Support training in PLS-CADD and transmission line design fundamentals
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in civil, Structural, or Electrical Engineering
  • 7-12+ years of transmission line engineering experience
  • Advanced proficiency in PLS-CADD (required)
  • Experience with PLS-POLE and/or PLS-TOWER
  • Strong knowledge of NESC, GO 95, and utility-specific design standards
  • Demonstrated experience leading design efforts and QA/QC reviews
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required

Preferred
  • Experience with major utilities (e.g., SCE, PG&E, SDG&E, WECC region utilities)
  • Experience supporting high-volume production environments
  • Familiarity with LiDAR, GIS integration, and digital terrain modeling
  • Experience supporting construction or field engineering

Wage Data Per State Requirements
Salary range for this position is $140,000 - $180,000. The starting salary will be commensurate with skill, education, experience, and working environment.
