What is a Microsoft Help Desk Remote?

Microsoft Help Desk Remote jobs involve providing technical support and troubleshooting assistance to users of Microsoft products and services, such as Windows, Office, and Microsoft 365, from a remote location. Employees in these roles typically handle customer inquiries, resolve software or hardware issues, and guide users through problem-solving steps via phone, chat, or email. These positions require strong communication skills, technical knowledge of Microsoft products, and the ability to work independently from home or another remote setting.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a Microsoft Help Desk Remote specialist?

To thrive as a Microsoft Help Desk Remote specialist, you need a solid understanding of Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office applications, troubleshooting techniques, and often an associate degree or relevant certification such as CompTIA A+ or Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate. Familiarity with remote support tools, ticketing systems like ServiceNow or Zendesk, and knowledge of Active Directory are typically required. Exceptional communication, patience, and problem-solving skills help you efficiently assist users and resolve technical issues from a distance. These abilities are crucial for providing timely, effective support and ensuring user satisfaction in a remote IT environment.

What are some typical challenges faced by remote Microsoft Help Desk professionals, and how can they effectively address them?

Remote Microsoft Help Desk professionals often encounter challenges such as troubleshooting technical issues without physical access to devices, managing multiple support requests simultaneously, and maintaining clear communication with users who may have varying levels of technical knowledge. To address these challenges, leveraging remote diagnostic tools, setting clear expectations with users, and utilizing knowledge bases or documentation can be highly effective. Additionally, regular collaboration with team members through chat or video meetings helps ensure consistent support quality and knowledge sharing.

Job Level: Mid Level

Home District/Group: Kiewit Quality

Department: Quality

Market: Corporate Home Office

Employment Type: Full Time

Position Overview

The Quality Analytics Solutions Developer partners with Quality, Technology, and business leaders to transform complex operational data into actionable insights that improve project performance and decision-making. This role develops dashboards, reporting solutions, and analytical tools while integrating data from multiple enterprise systems to create scalable, governed, and reliable analytics that support field teams, district leadership, and corporate stakeholders. Success in this role requires balancing technical expertise with a strong understanding of business processes, helping modernize Quality reporting from manual, fragmented data into a connected enterprise analytics environment.

District Overview

Kiewit's Quality Group is a shared service that maintains and executes quality standards on projects across the company. Our principal quality objectives are to meet or exceed clients' expectations and to eliminate rework by performing our work "right the first time." We monitor our performance against these objectives and require continual improvement.

Location

Preferably this person will be located and work out of the Lenexa, KS or Houston, TX offices. Remote work may be considered.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain dashboards, reports, and analytical solutions that provide meaningful insights into Quality performance across projects, districts, and business units.
  • Retrieve, integrate, validate, and transform data from Snowflake and other enterprise systems to support reporting, analytics, and decision-making.
  • Develop scalable Power BI reports, semantic models, reusable datasets, measures, and visualizations while leveraging the most appropriate technology for each business need.
  • Build analytical solutions using tools such as SQL, Excel, Power Platform, Microsoft Fabric, SharePoint, Dataverse, Python, and other enterprise technologies.
  • Partner with Quality leaders and project teams to understand business processes and translate operational needs into reporting requirements, KPIs, dashboards, and workflow improvements.
  • Identify inconsistencies in source data, reporting definitions, and business processes while developing standardized, governed solutions that improve data quality and reporting accuracy.
  • Validate reporting outputs against source systems and troubleshoot discrepancies to ensure the integrity and reliability of analytics.
  • Support data governance initiatives by documenting definitions, maintaining reporting standards, and promoting consistent metrics across the organization.
  • Develop dashboards and analytical products that highlight trends, risks, leading indicators, and actionable insights rather than simply reporting historical data.
  • Manage reporting environments, including security, access controls, refresh schedules, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
  • Collaborate with Technology, Data Architecture, and business stakeholders to continuously improve Quality analytics capabilities and reporting solutions.
  • Independently manage multiple priorities while delivering practical, scalable solutions in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Engineering, Business Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of experience developing business intelligence solutions, dashboards, reports, and enterprise analytics.
  • Advanced SQL experience, including querying, joining, transforming, and validating data within Snowflake or similar cloud-based data platforms.
  • Experience developing Power BI dashboards, semantic models, DAX measures, Power Query transformations, and reusable datasets.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling principles and business intelligence best practices.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Power Query, PivotTables, structured tables, analytical models, and complex formulas.
  • Experience integrating data from multiple enterprise systems, databases, APIs, spreadsheets, SharePoint, and other business applications.
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Apps and Power Automate.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into scalable reporting and analytical solutions.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deliver high-quality solutions independently.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure data services, Dataverse, or similar enterprise data platforms.
  • Experience using Python, R, notebooks, or other analytical programming languages.
  • Understanding of data governance, reporting standards, metadata management, and enterprise data quality practices.
  • Experience developing enterprise dashboards that communicate trends, operational risk, performance metrics, and actionable insights.
  • Background supporting construction, engineering, project execution, quality management, inspections, nonconformance reporting, or operational risk.
  • Experience working with data across multiple business systems where processes, definitions, and data quality vary.

Other Requirements:

  • Regular, reliable attendance
  • Work productively and meet deadlines timely
  • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment.
  • Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
  • Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
  • May work at various different locations and conditions may vary.
