Compensation: $120k annually plus benefits

Shift: M- F Day Shift / 8 hours

Minium Education / Licensures / Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree AND 4 years lab training or experience in the high complexity testing specialties performed; OR Master’s degree AND 2 years lab training or experience in the high complexity testing specialties performed; OR ...Licensed MD/DO.DPM or PhD AND certified in clinical pathology OR 1-year lab training or experience in the high complexity testing specialties performed
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a clinical laboratory with 3 years of microbiology and blood bank required.

** Must meet CLIA 88 requirements as a supervisor

**Certification as a medical technologist or diplomate of Laboratory Management by an appropriate accrediting agency, ie., ASCP, AMT, NCA or equivalent.

Job Description:

The Laboratory Director assists in planning, directing and overall operation of the laboratory. The director supervises and coordinates activities of lab professionals, technicians and non-technical team members in diagnostic work and treatment of patients under the direction of or in cooperation with a Pathologist. The director provides ongoing analysis, development and implementation of methods and systems to improve overall efficiency and effectiveness of services and functions. Ensures compliance with all applicable quality and accreditation standards for CLIA, CMS, etc. Develops methods for testing and provides appropriate input for selection of equipment. Strives to develop and maintain a network of contacts, both internal and external to the organization. Models and fosters a positive work environment among team members. Supports the commitment to data-driven decision making and leads the use of key performance indicators/metrics to bring forth positive change to improve existing processes. Encourages and facilitates cooperation within the organization to connect people to best thinking and practices. Works across multiple teams, often in a matrix environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for all fiscal, technical, regulatory, and human management of the laboratory
  • Assists in coordination and content of education programs for lab, nursing, physicians, and other health care facility professionals on lab related issues to meet the specific needs of the health care facility
  • Establishes and executes effective communication strategy to lab team members
  • Identification of and implementation of action plans to achieve goals related to quality, service, patient satisfaction, safety, and finance.
  • Selection of the test methodology that is appropriate for the clinical use of the test results
  • Verification of the test procedures performed and establishment of the laboratory's test performance characteristics, including the precision and accuracy of each test and test system
  • Ensuring that patient test results are not reported until all actions have been taken and the test system is functioning properly
  • Identifying training needs and assuring that each individual performing tests receives regular in-service training and education appropriate for the type and complexity of the laboratory services performed
  • Direct observations of routine patient test performance, including patient preparation, if applicable, specimen handling, processing and testing
  • Monitoring the recording and reporting of test results
  • Direct observation of performance of instrument maintenance and function checks

Is responsible for all aspects of the lab and supervision and direction of the lab staff including the Laboratory Technical Supervisor.
