Job description

Clinical Laboratory Scientist II — Microbiology & WGS

Location: Indianapolis, IN (Onsite) | 6+ month contract (possible extension) | $31.14/hr (1099)
Interview: Phone screen, then in-person

Summary
Perform microbiological and molecular testing on clinical and reference specimens to isolate, identify, and characterize bacterial and fungal pathogens, including antimicrobial-resistant organisms. Support CLIA-regulated workflows, QA/QC, and reporting.

Key responsibilities

  • Run culture, biochemical tests, MALDI-TOF, PCR, DNA sequencing, and WGS.

  • Perform nucleic acid extraction (manual and automated).

  • Validate, interpret, and report results; maintain LIS records.

  • Conduct QC/QA and participate in proficiency testing.

  • Manage inventory and assist with lab reports and cross-training.

Required

  • Experience in microbiology and molecular testing; CLIA familiarity.

  • Strong analytical and communication skills.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s in Biological Sciences or related field.

  • ≥2 years in a high-complexity clinical/public health lab.

  • Hands-on experience with PCR, sequencing, MALDI-TOF, and WGS.
