Job description

The Microbiology Lab Supervisor is responsible for leading and managing a team of 5-10 skilled microbiologists and/or lab technicians, ensuring the efficient execution of method development, routine QC testing, environmental monitoring, and compliance with cGMP standards. This role oversees laboratory operations, fosters team development, and provides technical expertise to support product quality and safety. The supervisor will play a key role in driving continuous improvement initiatives, troubleshooting microbiological challenges, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet production and regulatory goals.

This is an on-site position, Monday-Friday. This position pays between $75,000.00 and $90,000.00 USD per year depending on experience and qualifications.

Job duties/Percentage of Time:

  • Provides support and oversight of testing and release of laboratory testing 55%
  • Initiates and completes laboratory investigations to their closure 10%
  • Conducts training for direct reports and takes part in needed training to perform job function. 10%
  • Participates in Continuous Improvement initiatives. 10%
  • Provides performance-based feedback to direct reports, including completion of annual performance reviews. 5%
  • Provides support to R&D lab 5%
  • Manage laboratory equipment calibration and qualification programs 5%

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or related discipline.
  • Five (5) years experience in a laboratory environment.
  • General understanding of applying cGMP requirements for all data generated by the QC laboratory.
  • Experience in USP Antimicrobial Effectiveness Testing, Microbial Limits Testing, Environmental Monitoring programs, and Microbiological Assays.
  • Must be able to evaluate complex microbial data and assess its impact on materials, products, or facilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, and computer literacy, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written procedures.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of previous supervisory experience preferred.
