Job Description

We are seeking a Microbiology Operations Supervisor to lead first-shift operations in a GMP-regulated laboratory. This role is ideal for candidates with strong microbiology expertise, hands-on experience in environmental monitoring (EM), and proficiency managing teams. The position combines technical oversight with leadership and project management responsibilities, ensuring operational excellence and compliance with quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and perform EM activities, including sampling of cleanrooms, water systems, and compressed gases.
  • Lead investigations into microbiological deviations and prepare detailed reports.
  • Utilize LIMS for sample tracking, test results, and reporting.
  • Supervise and mentor microbiology analysts and group leaders, fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
  • Manage onboarding, training, and development of staff with a focus on microbiological techniques and EM protocols.
  • Coordinate scheduling, task allocation, and overtime planning for second-shift operations.
  • Apply Lean principles to optimize workflows and reduce inefficiencies.
  • Serve as a liaison between internal teams and external clients, ensuring timely communication and project execution.
  • Ensure adherence to highest quality and efficiency standards in laboratory operations
  • Foster morale and teamwork
Qualifications

Education:

  • BS in Microbiology, Life Sciences, or related field with 4+ years relevant experience
  • OR MS with 2+ years relevant experience

Experience:

  • Hands-on experience in environmental monitoring in a cGMP-regulated setting.
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership experience in technical or laboratory environments.
  • Strong understanding of microbiological testing, EM protocols, and compliance standards.
  • Proven ability to manage projects, coach staff, and drive operational performance.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without restriction or sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with LIMS and electronic data management systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to lead complex investigations.
  • Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and client interaction.
Additional Information

The position is full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm, with overtime as needed. Candidates living within a commutable range of Rensselaer, NY are encouraged to apply.
