Job description

Located at Miami Valley Hospital (Dayton, OH)

Full-Time Day Shift (7:00 AM-3:00 PM)

Position Summary

The position is responsible for completing and maintaining an accurate schedule for all three phlebotomy shifts, verifying adequate coverage to meet the needs of the department and facility. Additionally, this position supports and coordinates with Lab Support Leaders to continue to develop staff, performs administrative tasks as assigned, and ensures all orientation and training documents are completed, signed, and inspection ready at all times.

Responsibilities:

  • Scheduling

    • Create detailed schedules for phlebotomy teams with three shifts and coordinate schedules.
    • Develop and maintain a long-term rotating schedule for the lab support team.
    • Update and manage a rotating holiday schedule for phlebotomy staff.
    • Handle scheduling requests and issues following department policies.
    • Maintain and update staffing lists for phlebotomy team members.
    • Coordinate with external contacts to ensure volunteer coverage for vacancies.
  • Orientation & Training Coordination

    • Ensure availability of orientation and training materials.
    • Update training materials based on guidance from Training Coordinator and Lab Support Leaders.
    • Track and audit training, orientation, and competency records for phlebotomy staff.
    • Complete additional training and competency assessments as requested.
  • Inventory Control

    • Maintain daily stock levels in collection areas.
    • Organize and deliver inventory to remote hospital locations, ensuring proper rotation.
    • Conduct inventory audits and manage expired products.
  • Administrative Duties

    • Provide administrative support, including monitoring supply usage and entering data.
    • Maintain locker assignment records for the laboratory.
    • Represent the department in the CompuNet Safety Committee and conduct safety audits.
    • Complete additional projects and process improvements as assigned.
  • Communication & Teamwork

    • Facilitate positive interactions with customers and respond promptly.
    • Inform Lab Support Leaders of issues and problems.
    • Collaborate with the department to achieve goals and complete projects efficiently.
  • Behavioral Standards

    • Adhere to CompuNet’s behavioral standards and demonstrate positive customer service.
    • Maintain phlebotomy competency and perform venipunctures and capillary punctures as needed.
    • Perform other tasks and assignments as requested.

Qualifications:

  • High School degree or equivalency at minimum.
  • Exceptional organizational skills-works quickly and effectively.
  • Experience creating and maintaining a schedule is preferred.
  • Strong computer keyboarding and software skills
  • Demonstrate Customer Service skills including communication, problem resolution and phone skills.
  • Able to handle stressful intense situations with a positive approach and even enjoy challenging situations.

Physical & Safety Demands:

  • Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to chest level.
  • Walk 5-7 miles per day; sit occasionally.
  • Frequent bending, twisting, and stooping.
  • Read, distinguish colors, and interpret complex information.
  • Use hands freely; rotate wrists and bend arms as needed.
  • Work in low-light and tight spaces; temperate temperatures.
  • Occasional exposure to moderate noise levels.
  • Exposure to biohazards and hazardous chemicals.
  • Follow all safety, ergonomic, and health policies.
  • Comply with PPE requirements in labs and biohazard areas.
  • Complete safety training and health evaluations on time.
  • Identify and respond to safety hazards; promote safety awareness.
