Job description

Position Summary Target Hiring Range: $18.52 - $20.58 The purpose of this position is to maintain accurate meter records. This is accomplished by reading and maintaining meters and performing repairs on meters. Other duties may include providing customer service, installing and disconnecting meters and interfacing with other City employees and citizens

This position does not provide direction to other employees. Essential Job Functions This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. The following examples do not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent.

Reads meters by operating handheld reading devices, exposing buried meters, accurately recording meter usage, manually closing meter lids and pumping water out of meters. Provides customer service by answering questions, rereading meters if needed, data entry, notifying customers of leaks and connecting and disconnecting meters. Maintains meters by picking-up and completing work orders, changing out broken meters, monitoring meters for damage, preparing reports, communicating meter problems to the appropriate departments and inspecting meters for water leaks.

Installs and disconnects meters by locating the correct address and stop locations, establishing meter locations. Education and Experience Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.

Under and including one year of relevant experience. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check, drug and alcohol test, and a motor vehicle review. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Special Requirements: This position is classified as a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing during the course of employment.

Licenses and Certificates: Valid Class C Drivers License. Work Environment: Works involves exposure to disagreeable elements and extreme weather conditions. Physical demands include frequent lifting of heavy objects.
