Position Overview:

The Metal Shop Associate is responsible for supporting the metal fabrication processes, performing tasks such as material retrieval, machine operation, quality inspection, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. This position is critical to ensuring that metal components are prepared and processed accurately and efficiently for production.

Key Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities of this position will include, but will not be limited to:

  1. Material Handling: Retrieve metal materials from storage locations and transfer them to the appropriate workstations or areas using tools such as pallet jacks.
  2. Machine Operation: Operate metal shop machinery, including presses, shears, and cutting tools, ensuring accurate operation in accordance with safety protocols and production standards.
  3. Quality Control: Inspect metal parts and components for defects or irregularities, ensuring they meet the required specifications before moving to the next stage of production.
  4. Tool Maintenance: Regularly inspect and perform routine maintenance on tools and machines, ensuring they are in good working condition and reporting any issues to the Metal Shop Manager.
  5. Documentation: Accurately complete necessary production paperwork, documenting material usage, production outputs, and any issues encountered during the process.
  6. Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety guidelines and procedures, wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and following lockout/tagout procedures when necessary.
  7. Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements within the metal shop and collaborate with team members and the Metal Shop Manager to implement changes.
  8. Cross-Training: Support other team members and departments as needed, contributing to a flexible and adaptable work environment.
  9. Housekeeping: Maintain a clean and organized workspace by regularly cleaning tools, work areas, and removing scrap materials according to company standards.

Qualifications:

  1. Experience: Previous experience in a manufacturing or metal shop environment preferred but not required. Willingness to learn and operate machinery.
  2. Attention to Detail: Ability to perform accurate measurements and ensure product quality through visual inspection and attention to detail.
  3. Safety Awareness: Must have a strong awareness of safety protocols and willingness to follow all safety regulations within the shop environment.
  4. Communication Skills: Good communication skills to work effectively with team members and the Metal Shop Manager.
  5. Teamwork: A collaborative team player who is willing to assist others when needed.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires physical stamina to stand, walk, and work for extended periods. The Metal Shop Associate must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, reaching, and performing repetitive tasks in a manufacturing environment. The ability to work in varying temperatures and noise levels is also necessary.
