Job description

This Sheet Metal Fabrication Shop Manager role oversees daily fab shop operations in the Shawnee, KS metro, including workflow scheduling, manpower planning, and material handling for HVAC ductwork production. The position supervises shop personnel, enforces SMACNA Duct Construction Standards, and coordinates closely with the Fab Shop Foreman and Field Operations Manager. The Sheet Metal Fabrication Shop Manager is accountable for on-time delivery, quality, and shop safety. Sheet metal contractors handle the fabrication, assembly, installation, and repair of ducts, control boxes, and HVAC components.

Key Responsibilities - Sheet Metal Fabrication Shop Manager

  • Oversee daily fab shop workflow through estimating, scheduling, and manpower planning to maintain on-time or ahead-of-schedule delivery.
  • Supervise fabrication personnel, resolve performance and dispute issues, and complete attendance, performance, and training documentation.
  • Maintain fab shop databases, spreadsheets, and production schedules with current and accurate data.
  • Coordinate with the Fab Shop Foreman, Field Operations Manager, and customers to align production with project requirements.
  • Uphold SMACNA Duct Construction Standards and enforce shop safety and quality protocols at all times.

Qualifications - Sheet Metal Fabrication Shop Manager

  • Minimum 5 years of fabrication shop experience.
  • Working knowledge of SMACNA Duct Construction Standards.
  • Hands-on experience with CAM Duct fabrication software.
  • Strong math, organizational, and verbal/written communication skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and a valid U.S. driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications - HVAC Sheet Metal Shop Manager

  • Background in commercial HVAC and/or construction trades.
  • Prior supervisory experience in a fab shop environment.
  • Familiarity with CAD-based fabrication and shop drawing review.
  • Comfort with flexible hours and shift coverage when production demands.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing or fab shop workflow optimization.

Physical Requirements - Sheet Metal Fabrication Shop Manager

  • Able to stand for up to eight hours per shift in a fabrication shop environment.
  • Vision sufficient to read schematics, measurements, and shop drawings, with or without correction.
  • Able to perform shift work and flexible hours as production demands.
  • Able to move safely around fabrication equipment and shop floor traffic.
  • Tolerance for shop noise, dust, and varying temperatures typical of HVAC duct fabrication.
