Job description

Shop Foreman

The Shop Foreman is responsible for leading the daily operations of the fabrication shop, ensuring quality workmanship, productivity, safety, and on-time delivery of fabricated materials. This role balances hands-on fabrication with leadership responsibilities, coordinating workflow, assigning work, developing team members, and maintaining high standards of craftsmanship.

The Shop Foreman is accountable for creating an organized, efficient, and safe work environment while supporting the growth of Ibis Fabrication through continuous improvement and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the fabrication shop.
  • Plan and prioritize daily production schedules to meet project deadlines.
  • Assign work based on employee skills, workload, and project priorities.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, shop drawings, and specifications.
  • Perform advanced sheet metal fabrication and assist with complex projects as needed.
  • Inspect fabricated materials to ensure quality and accuracy before delivery.
  • Coordinate production schedules with field operations and project management.
  • Train, coach, and develop fabricators and apprentices.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor labor productivity and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
  • Maintain inventory of shop materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Ensure preventative maintenance of fabrication equipment.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and performance feedback for shop employees.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional fabrication facility.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of commercial sheet metal fabrication experience (spiral, laser cutting, plasma cutting machines preferred)
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience
  • Advanced blueprint and shop drawing interpretation
  • Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC duct fabrication
  • Ability to operate all fabrication equipment safely
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
