Job description

Merchandise Planner

San Francisco, CA

At Rothy’s, we know there’s a better way to do business, and it starts by putting the planet and its people first. More than 225 million single-use plastic bottles and 715,000 pounds of ocean-bound marine plastic have been transformed into our signature thread, creating wardrobe staples that look just as good as they feel.

Striving for zero waste, we combine 3D knitting technology and handcrafted assembly to create machine washable styles that don’t compromise on comfort. From classic shoes to carry-everywhere bags, we create essentials for wherever you go.

At Rothy’s, building a sustainable future is at the heart of everything we do. We pride ourselves on fostering an inclusive environment at our HQ, retail stores and wholly-owned factory, and are growing our community every day.

About the Team:

The Merchandising Planning team is always on top of the latest trends—using data, research, exceptional taste and expert analytical skills to ensure we’ve got the right product in the right places at the right time. They work closely with partners in Production, Marketing and Merch to forecast, plan and manage our inventory—ensuring we delight our customers with products they love.

About the Role:

As a Merchandise Planner at Rothy’s, you’ll own the creation, management and execution of end-to-end sales, gross margin and merchandise planning strategies to achieve or exceed seasonal plans. You’ll collaborate with the Merchandising team to ensure each seasonal assortment maximizes sales and gross margin while optimizing inventory. You’ll partner closely with Production to support their needs and influence delivery timing to maximize both sales and gross margin. You’ll also support the Planning Manager of Growth Areas to shape company-wide plans and forecasts.

What you’ll do:

You’ll serve as the primary owner for all things related to Kids & Accessories - spanning sales, gross margin, inventory and receipts.

Post-Season / Pre-Season

  • Hindsight: Maximize sales and gross margin while optimizing inventory levels through rigorous hindsighting to identify risks and opportunities at a monthly and quarterly level—including assortment content across multiple product attributes, optimal colorway breadth, optimal depth and optimal total receipt levels.

  • Assortment: Influence cross-functional partners using clearly synthesized analysis from hindsight work on breadth, depth and content.

  • Financials: Develop pre-season category financial targets that align with seasonal product strategy—covering sales, gross margin and inventory.

  • Financial Alignment: Own, negotiate and communicate financial targets vs. bottom-up roll across OTB, Investment Review and Hindsight processes for your functional area.

In Season

  • Product Performance Analysis: Track weekly, monthly and quarterly sales and inventory performance vs. plan to identify and communicate opportunities and risks through OTB meetings.

  • Macro Mindset: Recognize macro-economic or socio-cultural events that can impact demand, and recommend how to respond from an investment or in-season management perspective.

  • Production Partnership: Partner with Production and Logistics to communicate replenishment and initial order needs and timelines—and influence optimal delivery timing.

  • Reporting: Develop, run and publish reporting for the cross-functional team as the single source of truth.

  • Tools: Develop and evolve planning tools with the Head of Merchandise Planning and cross-functional partners.

You are:
  • Curious and proactive - a self starter with a bias for action.

  • A collaborative team player who enjoys working with cross-functional teams.

  • Detail-oriented and organized, with strong follow-through on competing priorities.

  • A clear communicator who can translate data and analysis into easy-to-understand narratives for a range of audiences.

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to stay nimble in a fast-moving environment.

  • Solutions-oriented - you approach challenges as opportunities and bring a point of view to the table.

  • Energized by working for an innovative, purpose-driven brand.

You have:
  • A strong drive to maximize sales and Gross Margin while optimizing inventory levels.

  • The ability to read and react to business results and understand how decisions impact them.

  • Clear and influential communication skills across written, verbal and visual formats, with the ability to present to both peers and senior leadership.

  • Strong self-management skills, including the ability to prioritize, manage up and maximize your contribution.

  • Proficiency using financial metrics to measure business performance.

  • The ability to quickly develop tool and system proficiency.

Our benefits:
  • Generous paid time off

  • 401k matching

  • Comprehensive health plans for you and your family

  • Dog friendly offices

  • Employee Discount Program!
