Merchant / Buyer (E-Commerce & Omni-Channel Retail)

Manhattan, NY (Hybrid – 3 days onsite: Tue, Wed, Thu)
$120K + KPI Bonus

Position Overview

Growing retail and e-commerce company seeking a Merchant / Buyer to take full ownership of assigned product categories across omni-channel sales channels. This person will own the category from every angle—including assortment planning, forecasting, inventory, vendor management, pricing, merchandising, and growth strategy. We're looking for someone who can dive deep into a category, make independent decisions, and be fully accountable for its performance.

The Ideal Candidate

  • 3+ years of merchandising, buying, or category management experience in retail or e-commerce

  • Proven experience owning a product category end-to-end

  • Strong knowledge of Open-to-Buy (OTB), forecasting, inventory planning, and assortment management

  • Analytical, data-driven decision maker

  • Strong vendor management and negotiation skills

  • Self-starter who takes ownership and collaborates effectively across teams

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the performance, profitability, and inventory health of assigned product categories

  • Develop merchandising, pricing, and assortment strategies

  • Manage Open-to-Buy, forecasting, and inventory planning

  • Build and negotiate vendor relationships

  • Partner with marketing, web, and sales teams to optimize category performance

  • Analyze sales trends and identify opportunities to grow the business

  • Present category insights and recommendations to leadership

Qualifications

  • Retail, e-commerce, or omni-channel buying/merchandising experience

  • Strong Open-to-Buy, forecasting, and inventory management skills

  • Vendor negotiation and category ownership experience

  • Advanced Excel skills

  • Google Analytics or similar web analytics experience is a plus
