JOB SUMMARYย 

As our Buyer/Merchandiser, you will be responsible forย selecting andย purchasingย products forย theย retailย store,ย analyzing market trends, negotiating with suppliers, and managing inventory to maximize profitability.ย This role involves taking ownership of allย merchandise buyingย of Coopers Uptownย retailย items.ย This position willย facilitateย engaging retailย and windowย displays,ย accentuateย productsย and merchandise to encourage sales.ย 

JOB EXPECTATIONSย 

Product Curation & Selectionย 

  • Source and select merchandise that aligns with Coopers brand and customers.ย ย ย 
  • Continuously introduce new, uniqueย and onย trendย items to keep assortments fresh and relevant.ย ย 
  • Build andย maintainย strong relationships with vendors and local business partnerships.ย 
  • Balance creativity withย financial responsibilityย to ensure we delight customers while driving profitability.ย 

Business & Financialย 

  • Assistย in developing quarterly/seasonal buying strategies that integrate replenishment of ongoing goods while also introducing new vendors and/or categories to test.ย 
  • Help manage theย open-to-buyย budget markย ups and inventory in partnership withย the corporateย partnersย and retail store manager.ย 
  • Receive newย productย and enter data intoย POSย system.ย 

Customer & Marketย 

  • Continually understand Coopers target audiences.ย 
  • Stay ahead of fashion, retail, and cultural trends.ย 
  • Design creative but effective displays withย store merchandise for the giftย shop, cafรฉ, and tobacco departments that equate to strong sales.ย 
  • Collaborate with retail store manager and marketing to ensureย the merchandiseย aligns with customer experiences and events.ย 

Operationsย 

  • Ownย the merchandise buying processย from vendor selectionย and negotiation, through purchasing and replenishment, product set up, pricing and inventory management.ย 
  • Partner with store leadership and vendors to train staff on product stories.ย 
  • Return damaged or incorrect merchandise.ย 
  • Keep shipping and receivingย areaย clean and organized.ย 

Miscย 

  • Travel required for buying shows, vendor meetings, etc.ย 
  • Ability toย move, lift and reposition up to 25 lbs.ย 

QUALIFICATIONSย 

REQUIRED:ย 

  • Proven work experience as aย Merchandise Buyer, Store/Retailย Manager, General Manager, Hospitality Manager or similar roleย 
  • Provenย experience managing vendor relationships and buying productย
