A Medical Scribe provides clerical support to doctors, a similar role to a personal assistant, but with a focus on transcription. A Medical Scribe performs many tasks to make a doctor’s job easier. For example, a Medical Scribe will collect patient health information before scheduled visits so the doctor can prepare for upcoming appointments. During medical visits and procedures, a Medical Scribe documents the details of the encounter as well as new health data in the patient’s Electronic Health Record (EHR).

Medical Scribes primarily focus on documenting patient encounters in real-time, working closely with physicians. Medical Assistants handle both clinical and administrative tasks, including patient intake and basic clinical procedures. While both roles support healthcare delivery, Medical Scribes specialize in documentation, whereas Medical Assistants have broader patient care responsibilities.
