What is a medical insurance follow up specialist?

Medical Insurance Follow Up Specialists are professionals who handle the process of tracking and resolving outstanding insurance claims for healthcare providers. They review denied or delayed claims, communicate with insurance companies, and ensure that payments are received in a timely manner. Their work helps healthcare facilities maintain healthy cash flow and ensures that patients' insurance benefits are applied correctly. This role requires strong attention to detail, communication skills, and knowledge of medical billing and insurance procedures.

Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems, claims management software, and payer portals is typically required. Attention to detail, effective communication, and persistence are essential soft skills for resolving claim issues and negotiating with insurance companies. These skills ensure timely reimbursement, minimize claim denials, and support the financial health of healthcare organizations.
