Job Description
Take your Medical Assisting experience beyond the exam room. Unitek College of Nursing is looking for an experienced Medical Assistant who wants to make a broader impact in healthcare. In this hybrid Career Services and Externship Coordinator role, you will help Medical Assisting students transition from the classroom to externship and ultimately into meaningful employment. You will coordinate externship placements, coach students and graduates, and develop partnerships with Reno-area healthcare employers. WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS
Your Medical Assisting experience gives you firsthand knowledge of what students need to succeed in a healthcare workplace. You will use that experience to prepare students, support employers, and create pathways from education to employment.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Coordinate quality externship placements for Medical Assisting students.
  • Prepare students for externship and clearly communicate expectations for attendance, performance, and professionalism.
  • Monitor student progress, required hours, evaluations, and documentation.
  • Conduct externship site visits and maintain relationships with site supervisors.
  • Coach students and graduates in resume development, interviewing, job-search strategies, and professional communication.
  • Connect qualified graduates with job opportunities and support them through the hiring process.
  • Build relationships with clinics, medical practices, hospitals, and other healthcare employers.
  • Develop new externship sites and hiring opportunities through proactive outreach and networking.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and accreditation-ready student and employer records.

Pay Range
The hourly pay range for this position is $30 (minimum), $32 (midpoint), and $34 (maximum).*
*Typical hiring range is between the minimum and midpoint of the above pay range. Actual starting base pay may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, location and budget.
Qualifications
  • At least three years of hands-on Medical Assisting experience. This experience is required to meet accreditation qualifications for the position.
  • Completion of a Medical Assisting program.
  • Strong communication, organization, relationship-building, and follow-through skills.
  • Confidence reaching out to healthcare employers and developing new partnerships.
  • Ability to manage multiple students, deadlines, employer relationships, and detailed documentation.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel locally.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and business technology

Preferred Experience:
  • Experience in externship coordination, student support, career services, healthcare recruiting, employer relations, community outreach, or business development.
  • Experience coaching, mentoring, or training others.
  • Familiarity with student information, CRM, or case-management systems.
