Job description

Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program – 2 Open Positions!

Newport Health Center is excited to offer two Medical Assistant (MA) Apprenticeship opportunities for individuals interested in starting a healthcare career while earning a full-time paycheck.

As an apprentice, you will:

  • Work full-time at Newport Health Center
  • Receive hands-on, day-to-day training from experienced healthcare professionals
  • Complete online coursework paid for by the hospital
  • Gain the skills and experience needed to become a Medical Assistant

The program takes approximately 12–15 months to complete. Upon completion, participants agree to a two-year employment commitment as a Medical Assistant with Newport Health Center.

This is a great opportunity to earn while you learn, build valuable healthcare skills, and establish a long-term career in a supportive environment.

Primary Scheduled Hours: Days, 80 hours per pay period

Job Summary:

Provides patient care in an office setting. Provides care that meets the psychosocial, physical, and general aspects of care; meets the communication needs of patient and family; provides care that reflects initiative and responsibility indicative of professional expectations, under the supervision of a MA preceptor and Registered Nurse and/or physician. Maintains regulatory requirements, nursing and office policies, procedures, and standards. Communicate with physicians and team members about patient's clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology.

The Washington Association for Community Health Medical Assistant Apprenticeship is a Registered Apprenticeship through the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries and the Federal Department of Labor.

The Medical Assistant (MA) Apprenticeship is an alternative to a college certification program. This intensive 12-month program combines paid on-the-job learning at Newport Hospital & Health Services (NHHS) with online coursework in MA, clinical skills and the principles of patient-centered care.

This program prepares graduates to take the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam through the National Health Career Association and receive their Medical Assistant – Certified (MA-C) credential in Washington State.

Education Background and Experience Requirements

  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English
  • High school education or equivalent
  • At least 18 years of age

Professional Requirements:

  • Maintain regulatory requirements
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled; complete work within designated timelines.
  • Demonstrates the ability to adhere to the mission, ethics and goals of the District.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate with patients, guests and staff in a courteous, respectful and helpful manner.
