Job description

Overview
The Patient Access Specialist Medical Assistant (MA) will collect data, make assessments, and determine needed interventions with patient care. This includes evaluating symptoms, effectiveness of treatment and when to call back. The Patient Access Specialist MA will document patient complaints/symptoms, advice and patient/caller response. The Patient Access Specialist MA will be responsible for triaging patient phone calls to determine necessity for medical appointments, prescription refills, and other information needed.
Responsibilities
  • Evaluate patients over the phone to determine the type of care needed.
  • Answer patient questions on a wide range of medical topics
  • Communicate and coordinate patient care with primary care provider
  • Follow triage procedure protocols to obtain information to make accurate assessments.
  • Scheduling and coordinating urgent medical appointments.
  • Call/fax medication refills to appropriate pharmacy.
  • Follows procedures for the electronic health record system.
  • Handle incoming calls and check voicemail regularly.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by management within job scope.

Qualifications
Education / Training
  • High School Diploma/Equivalent

Experience Requirements
  • 1-year medical assistant experience in a healthcare environment and a strong understanding of medical terminology, as well as demonstrated proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
