Job description

The role of the medical assistant is to assist providers in implementing patient care and provide patient-centered and culturally competent care at Central Outreach Wellness Center.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Chart short description of each visit for Provider, or MA visit.
  • Obtain Vitals including height, weight, BP, pain level, pulse, and respiratory rate.
  • Obtain Labs as ordered, and properly label samples with first initial, last name and birthdate as confirmed with patient.
  • Collect samples including urine, throat swab, and rectal swab as ordered.
  • Properly log patient information into EKG, and perform EKG successfully.
  • Administer and properly chart for vaccines under the guidance of providers, and bill for patient vaccines in EMR system properly.
  • Properly chart any given medications in the chief complaint with proper dosage, concentration, administration route and site.
  • Assist providers with any medical task as requested.
  • Disinfect exam rooms between patient visits.
  • Stock all bathrooms and exam rooms with gloves, appointment slips, etc.
  • Properly dispose of sharps and bio-hazardous materials, maintain safe environment.
  • Answering phones and routing the caller to where they need to go.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Culturally competent while working, including being gender sensitive and pronoun aware.
  • Be able to work with a team of medical assistants, providers, and administrative staff.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills, Excel, Word and how to use Electronic Medical Records.
  • Experience with patient centered care.
  • Punctuality and impeccable attendance.
  • Strong communication skills with both professionals and patients from all demographics.
  • Non-judgmental approach to patient care.
  • Technical skills with required office equipment.
  • Patience and great attention to detail.
  • Completely understand the healthcare privacy laws as outlined in HIPAA.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in team-based care.
